Check-in Architecture is 375 documentaries. Check-in Architecture is 750 students and researchers from all over Europe travelling to other Countries to explore and investigate the urban environment. Check-in Architecture is a Free Press Magazine and a Blog. Check-in Architecture is two exhibitions. Check-in Architecture is a Tv Show. Check-in Architecture is a generation living low cost Check-in Architecture: the project Check-in Architecture is a participatory research project, which is patronized by the International Union of Architects (UIA), the Venice Biennale and the Torino 2008 World Design Capital. We invite artists, architects, designers, sociologists, media artists from the most prestigious universities to film pieces of our cities. There is the opportunity for the participants to travel for free to different European cities. They have to Check-in and to accomplish a mission: they will be asked to produce a short documentary based on a script. A cultural committee of curators and researchers coordinated by Mario Benini, Andrea Lissoni, Luca Molinari and Luca Martinazzoli will identify the most relevant themes and projects across the European cultural scene. The research project challenges a generation with high access to low-cost flights and multimedia tools to investigate their geographies. Check-in Architecture will develop a crossmedia platform to connect students and scholars. 375 Documentaries - Choosing the missions. On www.checkinarchitecture.com students will find a list of missions divided according to the cities, with the available flights and cars. They will be departing from: London, Paris, Berlin, Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon, Milan, Turin, Naples, Amsterdam and Basel. On the website they will also get information about the missions associated with each journey. The goal of each mission is to make a video (interview, reportage) on the chosen theme which will be then edited in a short format (1.30’ to 3’). Each mission will have to be accomplished by a team of two people. On the road 1500 flight tickets to the most important European and Italian cities will be provided. Moreover, cars will be available to drive to places that the planes can’t reach, or to move around cities. Also accommodations will be provided when needed. Check-in Architecture will organize everything for the participants by booking flights and accommodations, and setting the appointments with the people to interview or the events to attend. After the Mission Once the mission is completed the participant will have to send the footage to our office in Milan where it will be edited, post produced and uploaded on line Contents distribution All the videos will be uploaded on a special section of youtube.com and they will be linked with maps on Google Earth and Google Map. On checkinarchitecture.com there will be the complete listing of missions and credits of all the participants. The Blog A Blog hosted by Blogger.com will be opened to give everyone the chance to post ideas and suggestions for possible missions. It will also be a space for people to collect thoughts on previous missions. It’s an open platform to discuss and think about the main themes of the project. Free Press Two editions of a free press magazine will be released, at the beginning and at the end of the project. The first issue will be a guide for the participants to the project and its view, while the second issue will be a sum of all the work done and the contents created. Television Format The best reportages and videos will become the protagonists of a tv series (each show of 24 minutes): it’ll be a talk show that starting from architecture will also discuss creativity, art, music and metropolitan lifestyle. The TV show will be composed of four episodes to travel with irony and creativity through the cultural references of the new generation, with guests, in-depth examinations and chances of comparison. The Check-in Points Real Check-in points will be established during the Milan Design Week (Salone del Mobile), Turin World Design Capital, XXIII UIA World Congress, and Cagliari Festarch. In each point people will be able to candidate themselves for special missions and collect the documents to leave for their destinations. The Living Wall Check-in Architecture reaches the core of the city through a form of communication of great visibility and impact. In Duomo Square, Milan, there is the first media-facade in Italy. The urban screen will be transmitting a special project: “24 Hours Check-in People”, a video drawn from the 375 documentaries will describe in a dynamic way Check-in Architecture by showing images recorded during the missions, and edited in a choral narration that takes place in different European metropolis, in a period of 24 hours. Check-in Architecture Exhibits The first exhibit will take place during Transmitting Architecture 2008 in Turin (29/6 to 4/7): Inedited, digital and interactive portrays of the European cities to highlight the most interesting aspects of contemporary architecture and design. A second and larger exhibition will be presented during the Venice Architecture Biennale (September 2008). This will be the final step of the whole project and will be the ideal stage to discuss the results of the long analysis process that Check-in architecture represents. Partners Check-in Architecture is an ambitious and articulated project that can rely on three important partners for its success. The first one is the International Union of Architects. The second partner is Google, the greatest information service system on the web, through the following services: YouTube, Google Earth, Google Map and the blog platform Blogger.
