Overview

A prolonged period of wintry weather begins

Light precipitation overspreads the region from southeast
to northwest today



Initially beginning as rain the precipitation will change to a mix
of rain, sleet and snow
Precipitation changes to all snow overnight
Snow continues through Thursday, slowly diminishing
Thursday Night with lingering snow showers through
Friday

Weather Synopsis – Today


Two low pressure areas...one over the Great Lakes and one
off the Atlantic Coast...will bring a wintry mix of precipitation
to the region
Light rain spreads northwest across the region




As colder air is drawn south, the precipitation changes to a mix
of rain and snow
Over the higher elevations of the Tug Hill some sleet is also
possible.

Weather Synopsis – Tonight through Wednesday

Cold air deepens over the regions as low pressure
deepens off the NY/NJ coast

Precipitation:




Changes to all snow and continues across the entire
region
“Moderate” snows develop across Northern New York
and the Finger Lakes with snowfall rates of up to 1 ½
inches per hour
Snow type will be heavy, wet so blowing snow is not
expected to be a major factor
Winds: North 10 to 20 mph gusts up to 30 mph
becoming northwest

The prolonged winter event continues as low
pressure only moves from Long Island on
Wednesday to Massachusetts on Thursday

Snow continues across the region



Expect some lake enhancement south of the Lakes
Enhanced snow will also fall over the higher terrain of
those areas south and east of the Thruway
Winds: Northwest 10 to 20 with gusts to 30 mph

A prolonged period of wintry weather – Tonight through Friday

Precipitation begins as a mix of rain and snow


Snowfall amounts will be greatest across the Tug Hill and the
higher elevations south and east of the Thruway


Some freezing rain is possible over the North Country this
evening/tonight
Greatest snowfall rates of 1-2”/hour will occur over the Tug Hill
tonight and over the higher elevations southeast of Lake Ontario
Wednesday through Thursday
The snow type will be heavy, wet so blowing snow should not
be an issue
