What are the Interactions among organism?:
àThere are four types of interactions:
1.)Adaptations:
Behaviors and physical characteristics that allow organisms to survive in their environment. 1
Physical Adaptations: Body structures which help an animal survive in it's environment. ex.) An elephants trunk helps it eat and drink upright so it keep watch for danger like predators.
2
Behavioral Adaptations
Animals actions which allow them to respond to life needs. ex.) Defending itself and offspring
Gathering and storing food
Finding shelter
Hibernating
Migrating 3
ØPhysical or behavioral adaptations happen through a process called:
Natural Selection
________________________ A process in which adaptations help an organism to survive better in an environment and have more babies. Those babies than inherit those characteristics and continue to pass them on to future generations. 4
Physical or Behavioral? 5
2.) Symbiosis:
A close relationship between two species that benefits at least one of the species. 6
Mutualism: A relationship where both species benefit
Example: ____________________________________________________
Sea Anemone and Clown fish: Anemone protects the clown fish because it stings while the clown fish draws in food for the anemone to eat. 7
Commensalism: Relationship where one species benefits and the other species is neither helped nor harmed.
Example: _____________________________________
o Hitchhiker insect; Small insect gets a free ride, fly doesn’t notice 8
Parasitism: Relationship which involved one organism living on or inside another organism and harming it.
Example: _________________________________________
Humans and mosquitoes, they LOVE us for our blood we HATE them. • The organism that benefits is called the parasite, while the organism that is harmed is called the host.

3.)
Competition:
The struggle between organism to survive as they attempt to use the same limited resource.
Land, Ladies, Leader, Lunch
Limited Resources: (The 4 L’s) __________________________________________________
o
Example: ____________________________________________________________
Two males fighting over territory, or wolves fighting to be the alpha 10
4.) Predation: One organism kills another organism for food
Ex.) A cheetah killing a gazelle for food
