Computer \ Monitor: If you are using an older computer the initial map view maybe slow in loading to your screen. You may need to install or update older software on your computer to view the web application properly. Older monitors the data shown on your view screen may appear to overlap or not show up properly. Maximize the web application to take up your entire screen then zoom in to find a location or use the (Navigation) – (Search for Parcel) tool to locate a parcel in DuPage County IL. iPad and MAC users: The DuPageMaps web mapping application was developed in Adobe Flash. Several features have scale thresholds: (Example: 2FT. Contours, 100\500 Year Floodplain and Planimetric data.) When you zoom out beyond a certain scale the 2FT. Contours, 100\500 Year Floodplain and Planimetric data will turn “OFF” on your view screen. The web application has been specifically designed this way to improve on-line performance. Zoom in to see additional data\information on your view screen. Search for Parcel: When you use the “Search for Parcel” tool \ Find Parcel(s) By: Property Address. Do not type in “.” Example: “Rd.” or St.” The “.” is not recognized by the search tool. If you receive a “No results found” try typing in part of the address. Example: 1040 Norwood Lane - Just type in 1040 or 1040 Norwood. Search Intersections: When you search for a street intersection do not type in “.” Example: “Rd.” or St.” the “.” is not recognized by the tool. When searching for a street intersection make sure you type in the “AND” to separate street names. ( Example: Main St AND 75TH St ) Historical Imagery Tool: When you use the “Historical Imagery Tool\Slider Bar”, it may take a short time to load in the historical imagery. Once the historical imagery has completed loading you can then use the vertical slider bar to scroll back in time through the counties historical imagery. Measure Tools and Markup Tools: When drawing a polygon on your screen you will not see the polygon until you click on a second point or location. Once the second point has been selected the polygon will appear when you go to click on a third point or location. Note: Fast click point locations and double click to close\end lines or polygons. Radio Buttons in “TABLE OF CONTENTS” for Governmental Districts, Features or Flood Plain Data: Use the "DuPage County Data - Transparency Slider Bar” located in the "Table of Contents" to control the transparency for a selected radio button. This slider bar controls the transparency for “ALL” of the features checked\turned on. Legend Colors: The interactive map transparency settings in the "Table of Contents" will affect the legend colors shown on your screen. Initial View: If the map does not appear as shown below see “Helpful Information” at the top of this help document. Click on “Proceed to DuPageMaps Web Site”. (Please read the “Disclaimer” before proceeding.) Find a parcel in DuPage County, Illinois: Click on Main Menu Navigation button then click on the Search for Parcel button. A popup window will appear on your screen; (See image “A” shown below) click on the down arrow. 1. Click on Find Parcel(s) By: A. Real Estate PIN. (Ten digit - Parcel Identification Number) B. Property Address. (Type in an Address) Note: See Helpful Information \ Search for Parcel on Pg#2. C. Map Selection. (Zoom in, then use Point, Polyline or Polygon and select parcel(s) on screen.) Note: Fast mouse click a parcel. If you hold your left mouse button down your cursor will change to pan screen mode. To select multiple parcels fast click on each parcel in your view or use the polyline or polygon selection options. A. B. The Click to View link will launch the county assessor’s web site in a separate web browser window for a selected parcel. Refer to the DuPage County Illinois Supervisor of Assessments Web Site for an assessor directory listing. Located at: http://www.dupageco.org/SOA/1488/ Remove a selected parcel: Click on red (X) in the table to remove a specific parcel from the list. To remove “all” the selected records in the table click on the “Clear all” button. Zoom into selected parcel(s): Your view screen will automatically zoom into selected parcels. (See image “B” shown above.) Or you can click on the specific selected parcel. symbol in the table (See image “A” above.) and zoom into a BUFFER SELECTED PARCEL(S): You can buffer a selected parcel or parcels and select neighboring parcels based on a buffer distance. A. B. C. D. Click on the Buffer Selected button. (See image “A” shown above.) Set a Distance for the buffer. (The default is US Feet.) Check or Uncheck Show buffer on Map. The default is checked on. Click on the Buffer button. (This will buffer all of the selected parcels in the table.) Parcels that are completely within or touch the buffer distance will be selected, highlighted in RED on your view screen and added into the “Search for Parcel” table. If you close the “Search for Parcel” window the parcels will still be selected. Make sure you select the “Clear All” button before you close the window. The search for parcel tool centers selected parcels on your view screen. If you re-run the zoom to location tool before the table is cleared you will receive unexpected zoom \ view results. To return to the previous screen: Click on “<Back To Search” button. Results from running Buffer Parcel(s) Selected: (See image shown below.) Navigation Button: Navigation Buttons Row #1 Pan: Pan around the screen \ view. Click on map and hold down left mouse button, and drag the map. Zoom In: Click and hold down the left mouse button on your map. Drag and draw a rectangle box on screen, this will zoom your map into the rectangle you draw. Zoom Out: Click and hold down left mouse button. Drag and draw a “large” rectangle on screen, this will zoom out based on the rectangle size you draw. Note: The smaller the rectangle the more you will zoom out. Search for Parcel: Find and zoom into a parcel based on “Real Estate PIN”, and “Address” or by just “Clicking on the map”. (See Pg. #3 - Find a Parcel in DuPage County, Illinois.) Navigation Buttons Row #2 Zoom Previous: This will zoom to your previous screen extent. Zoom Next: If you use the “Zoom Previous” button then you can use the zoom next button to go back and forth between views. Full Extent: Zooms to the full extent of DuPage County. Zoom to Township: Click on down arrow; Select the Township name to zoom into on screen. Navigation Buttons Row #3 Overview Map: A window will appear showing you an overall map of DuPage County. A RED box will appear on the overview map showing you the current view extents. When you zoom in or out the red box will change in size to match your new view extents. You can also change your view extent by moving the RED box in the overview map. Left mouse click and hold down button on the RED box, drag the RED box around in overview map, release left mouse button. Your view will zoom to the new location. To close the overview map click on the overview map button again or click on the arrow in the overview map window. View Coordinates: (See image below.) When you click on this button a separate window will appear showing you where the curser is spatially located on your map view screen (X,Y coordinates in Illinois State Plain NAD83.). The view coordinates window will also show your screen\window width and height dimensions in feet. Map Scales: One unit on the map is equal to the corresponding number of the same units on the ground. For example, a scale of 1:12000 means that 1 inch = 12,000 inches. The following table (shown below) provides a list of map scale examples in the DuPageMaps web mapping application and their inch to feet equivalent for mapping purposes on screen. Example: Map Scales – Inch = Feet Equivalent: 1:600 = 1:1200 = 1:2400 = 1:4800 = 1:9600 = 1:10000 = 1:12000 = 1:48000 = 1"=50' 1"=100' 1"=200' 1"=400' 1"=800' 1"=833.333' 1"=1000' 1"=4000' Search Intersections: Search for a street intersection. Do not type in “.” Example: “Rd.” or St.” The “.” is not recognized by the Intersection tool. When searching for a street intersection make sure you type in the “AND” to separate street names. ( Example: Main St AND 75TH St ) Zoom to Municipality: Click on down arrow; Select the municipality name to zoom into on screen. Note: Municipality boundaries are turned “OFF” by default. To turn municipalities “ON” click on the main menu “Map View“ button and ”Table of Contents” button. Scroll down to municipalities and check “ON” the municipality radio button. (See Map View Button details for additional Help\Information.) Additional Zoom tools are located in the upper left hand corner of your view screen. Mouse over the tool and select a zoom option. Report Button: Report Buttons Row #1 Create PDF Map: This button will create a PDF map which can be saved to your local workstation. A. B. C. D. Select a template – (PDF Orientation: Portrait or Landscape.) Type in a PDF map title. Note: Author and Copyright cannot be changed. Option: Check on or off “Preserve Map Scale”. Then click on “PRINT” button. This will open or save a PDF document to your local workstation. Note: This option will depend on your web browser settings. If popup blocker is turned on this tool will not operate properly. A. PDF MAP Note: The PDF document you create will not contain the menus shown on your view screen. *PDF MAPs produced using the DuPageMaps web application please read Copyright \ Disclaimer at the bottom of this document. Create PDF Report / Text Export: This button creates a Comma Separated Variables (CSV) text file of “selected” parcels or a PDF document of “selected” parcels. Note: “Create a Text File” will depend on your web browser and web browser settings. You may be able to save the data directly into a text file on your local workstation or the data may open up in a separate web browser window. If this is the case save the page as a local text document. Example: In Mozilla Firefox go to File – Save Page As… then save it as text document. The text file will be comma delimited which can be imported into Microsoft Excel or Access. Excel users when importing the text file you may need to set the import text qualifier to {none}. The PINs leading zero will be missing. Example: PIN = 0228402016 will import as 228402016. Please refer to Microsoft Excel or Access import options. Map View Button: Map View Buttons Row #1 Table of Contents: Turn “ON” or “OFF” features in your view. Simply check or uncheck the boxes in the TOC to turn features “ON” or “OFF”. Note: Several features have scale thresholds set to improve the performance when drawing information to your screen. When you zoom out beyond a certain scale the 2FT. Contours, 100\500 Year Floodplain and parcel dimensions, will turn off, even though they may be checked on in the table of contents. The web application has been specifically designed this way to improve on-line performance. Checked “ON” Table of Contents Initial View: Checked “OFF” Table of Contents: Layer Transparency - How to use the transparency slider bars. Click on the gray circle and hold your left mouse button down and move your mouse to the left or right. This will adjust the transparency of a feature. (See Images Below.) (MORE Transparent) --------O--------- (LESS Transparent) Table of Contents: Radio Button Groups - You can only select and view one feature a time. Click on the RESET\CLEAR BUTTON to remove a radio button feature from your view screen. *Transparency for a selected radio button: Use the "DuPage County Data" transparency slider bar. (See image shown below). This slider bar controls the transparency for “ALL” of the features checked\turned on in “DuPage County Data”, “Select a Governmental District or Feature” radio button group and “Select an additional Feature” radio button group. Historical Imagery Tool: When you click on this button a window will appear showing you a vertical list of imagery years available for DuPage County. The 2008 imagery is the only year which shows the entire Chicagoland area including all of downtown Chicago. Check\click on “Use Historic Imagery” check box in the upper left hand corner. Older Computers \ Slow Internet Connections: When you use the “Historical Imagery Tool\Slider Bar”, it may take a short time to load in the historical imagery. Once the historical imagery has completed loading you can then use the vertical slider bar to scroll back in time through the counties historical imagery. When you check\click “ON” the “Use Historic Imagery” tool, the individual historical imagery years in the table of contents will become grayed out or unavailable. You must uncheck the “Use Historical Imagery” button to be able to use the individual imagery years in the “Table of Contents”. (See image shown below.) Historical Imagery in the Table of Contents: To view an individual year uncheck or turn off the BaseMap 2010 Imagery located at the top of the “Table of Contents” then check\click on an individual historical year. Bookmarks: How to save your current view as a bookmark. (See images shown below.) 1. Zoom into a parcel of interest on your view screen and Click on bookmark button. 2. Click on “Add New” button. 3. Type in a “Bookmark Title” or name for the bookmark. (Example: TEST_MAP2.) 4. Click on the “Save Bookmark” button. Once you save the bookmark you can return to it by clicking on it. To delete a saved bookmark highlight the bookmark and click on the Remove Selected button. Map View Buttons Row #2 Purchase Map: Link to DuPage County web site to purchase a high quality county map product. Preset Map: The Preset Map button will open the menu shown below. Click on or check the “Use Preset Maps” check box. Then click on a specific map or use the slider bar on the right side of the menu to slide between the different preset map types available. How to use slider bar - Click on the gray circle and hold your left mouse button down and move your mouse up or down. Your view will slide between the different map types. Note: When you use the “Preset Maps” the “Table of Contents” will be unavailable. Preset maps have scale thresholds set. (See “Helpful Information” on Pg. #2 of this document.) Examples of Preset Maps: DuPage Planimetric DuPage County Bikeway Terrain Data 2006 Topographic Contours 2006 DuPage Benchmarks DuPage Street Map Tools Button: Tools Button Row #1 Identify: This button is used to identify a parcel or feature on your view screen. Click on the identify button; two windows will appear. Next click on an identify icon (Example: ” ” ) then click on your view screen. The second window will show you the identify results for the point you selected. Identify Selection Options Point Line Free Hand Line Polygon (For icons shown below: Hold down left mouse button to start drawing on screen - let go when finished.) Free Hand Polygon Circle Square\Rectangle After you select a parcel or feature, you can change the “Identify Details” window results shown. Click on the down arrow to the right of the “Cadastral_RealEstate” text in the identify details popup window. This will open a drop down list showing you other attribute information you can view about the point location you have selected on your view screen. (Example Below -Image #1 and #2.) I identified a point on my view screen and opened the “Identify Details” dropdown list and selected “Municipality” - The point I selected on my screen was located in the City of Aurora, Illinois. #1 #2 Note: Identify Details - Image shown above: (Click on Feature to Expand.) Not all features contain additional information and will not expand. New Identify Options : Mouse over “Identified Details” features found. Features will highlight on your view screen. Identify Buffer: You can identify a location on your view screen and buffer the location to select\identify additional features. Additional features selected by the buffer will show up in the “Identify Details” features found list. The identify tool can be used on Preset Maps. If you select a preset map the identify details dropdown list will change to the selected “preset map” features. NOTE: Uncheck the “Use preset maps” check box when you are finished identifying features on a Preset Map. The Preset Maps checkbox will remain checked on even if the window is closed. Example: (Shown Below) How to identify features on a DuPage County Benchmark Preset Map used by engineer’s and\or professional land surveyors. #1. Click on the main menu green “Map View” button and green “Preset Maps” button. A “Preset Maps” window will pop-up on your view screen. #2. Check or Turn “ON” the “Use Preset Maps”. #3. Next click on the “DuPage Benchmarks” text in the preset map list. Your view will show all of the benchmarks within DuPage County. (Zoom into a DuPage County Benchmark.) Note: If you are zoomed into a specific area you may not see any county benchmarks. Zoom out to the full extent of DuPage County. #4. Click on the main menu magenta “Tools” button and “Identify” pop-up on your view screen. (A.) Identify (B.) Identify Details. #5. Using (A.) Identify Window - Select a point or a box button. Two Windows will . Note: Point selection : Make sure you select the dead center of a benchmark otherwise the Identify Details will show “No data available for this location.” #6 Select a benchmark or draw a box around the benchmark. The benchmarks identified will be displayed in the (B) “Identify Details” pop-up window. #7. After you have identified a benchmark click on the “Click to view PDF” text. This will open a PDF document. (See example of PDF benchmark document shown below) The PDF document will contain detailed information about the benchmark you selected. Example of: PDF Benchmark Document Google Street View: This button launches “Google’s Street View” in a separate web browser window. 1. Click on Google Street View Button. 2. Click on a street centerline. You must select a street centerline that is available in Google’s Street View. If the street is not available or you did not select directly on a street centerline only Google’s aerial photography will appear in the new web browser window. ***Google’s Street View Imagery. (Location : County Farm Rd. Wheaton IL.)*** Pictometry Viewer: This button launches “Pictometry Online” in a separate web browser window. The Pictometry Online imagery contains aerial oblique photographs of DuPage County IL. 1. Click on Pictometry Viewer button. 2. Click on a location inside DuPage County. You must select a location inside DuPage County. If you select a point location outside of DuPage County no imagery will appear in the Pictometry Online Viewer web application. ***No Imagery – Point location outside of DuPage County*** ***Pictometry Viewer Imagery. (DuPage County Complex)*** Tools Buttons Row #2 Measure Tools: When you click on this button a measure window will appear (See image below) “Select a measure type” and select or set the “Units”. Then measure on your view screen. See options below. Measure type option #1 - Point Location Units for Point - Default is set to State Plain. (NAD_1983_StatePlane_Illinois_East_FIPS_1201_Feet) Units Option: Decimal Degrees and DEG MIN SEC. Measure type option #2 - Line Distance Units for Line - Default is set to Feet. Units Option: Feet, Meters, Kilometers, Yards and Miles. Measure type option #3 - Area Units for Area - Default is set to Sq. Feet. Units Option: Feet, Meters, Kilometers, Yards, Miles and Acres. Note: MEASURE TOOLS shown above and MARKUP TOOLS shown below: When drawing a polygon on your view screen you will not see the polygon until you click on a second point or location. Once the second point has been selected the polygon will appear when you go to click on a third corner or location. Fast click point locations and double click to close\end lines or polygons. If you move your mouse while clicking on a point location or hold the left mouse button down for too long your cursor will revert back to pan screen mode. Markup Tools: Click on an Icon and create a markup or draw on your view screen Point Line Free Hand Line Polygon Text Free Hand Polygon (Hold down left mouse Button) Clear Button: Removes all Markups Temporarily turn off Markup Tools menu. Note: Markups will not be removed from your view screen until the clear button has been selected. If you close the markup tools window and reopen it your markups will reappear on your view screen. When using the “A” Text Icon: 1.Type in your text. 2. Select a color and size. 3. Click on your view screen and place the text. If you make a Report\PDF map the markups can be saved into the PDF document. Help Button: Help Buttons Row #1 Metadata Links: Click on the down arrow and select a feature. This link will open up a PDF document with metadata and legend information. Township Links: Links to DuPage County Townships Assessors web sites. Municipality Links: Links to DuPage County municipality web sites. Help Buttons Row #2 How to use Map: This button opens up this PDF document. Contact Us: Click on down the arrow. Phone Directory - Link to http://www.dupageco.org/3179/ which is a DuPage County Government phone # directory listing. Email - Contact us by Email at: [email protected] DuPage County Official Website: http://www.co.dupage.il.us/index.cfm DuPageMaps Overview: This button opens up the DuPageMaps Usage Agreement window when you first launch our interactive web mapping application. Buttons located at the top of the Help \ DuPageMaps Usage Agreement: Overview: Welcome to DuPage County Illinois information. Legend: The map legend is a key to all of the symbols used in this web mapping application. Progress: The Progress button will show a list of changes\improvements that will be implemented into the web application. FAQ: (Coming Soon) Frequently Asked Questions.
