M2 consists of M1 plus money market funds, time deposits, and savings deposits. From 2000 to 2010, M1 nearly doubled, and the same was true of M2, which also almost doubled from 2000 to 2010. Currency as a percentage of M1 was relatively stable, at around 50%, with a rise during the econmic boom years until 2007 and subsequent fall. Currency as a percentage of M2 was almost constant at between 10% and 11%.
