Create your own propaganda poster for Animal Farm. Demonstrate an
understanding of propaganda and an understanding of characterization
in Animal Farm by creating a propaganda poster for one of the animals
on the farm. What motivation/agenda does the character have?
Choose one of the following types of emotional appeals to share the
character’s “message”: name calling, glittering generality, transfer,
testimonial, plain folks, and bandwagon. You may choose a scene that
depicts the character’s view of reality or use symbols and images to
create this propaganda.

Requirements:
Poster:
 Clever and creative maxim calling the audience to action
 A quote or possible quotes from the novel (appropriate subject matter and
length) for support of idea
 A clear audience, from Animal Farm, who will benefit from the suggestion
given in the poster
 A clear speaker from Animal Farm
 Use of at least one propaganda technique from the given list
 Must be a demonstration of propaganda
 Must be hand-drawn, neat, colorful (unless artistically black and white), and
demonstrate quality (may be a collage if computer or print is used)
 Symbols must increase the significance of the message in the poster
 Colors have meaning and worth in the poster
 Neatness is one of our quality standards
Response Paragraphs:





Create a well-written, well- constructed explanatory response
This may be more than one paragraph. It MAY NOT be more than one page.
Clear opening and closing for each paragraph
Audience and speaker must be explained and purpose given
Explanation why this scene or image was chosen must be made clear
including its importance to the novel
 Symbols must be interpreted; color choices must be explained
 Maxim/caption—why were those words chosen and used in that manner
and in that way.
 Explain what propaganda technique is used and why.
