Wells-Barnett • Teacher, newspaper writer • Fired from teaching for writing an article critiquing segregated schools; friend lynched in Memphis; criticized by whites • Began anti-lynching campaign; worked against segregation in Chicago schools with Jane Addams (Hull House); supported women’s suffrage • Objected to Washington’s “accommodation”
