About The project
This project is funded by Mayor’s Office on African
Affairs
General Requirements :
• The Grantee will Increase health care awareness
training and assessment for Oromo Community
of Washington, DC Metropolitan area
Performance Period :
• the period of this grant shall commence June 2,
2014 and end on September 30, 2014

About The project
Target Population :
Oromo Community – Senior citizens, adult youth, and
women residing in Washington, DC
Article III – Performance Measure
The grantee will
• Develop and teach health literacy classes at the
community center
• Provide regular health check-up (weight, height,
and blood pressure)
• Produce and broadcast health related information
interviews and program updates on local radios
and other medias broadcast in Afaan Oromo
(language)

Normally, your body forms new cells as you need
them, replacing old cells that die.
Sometimes this process goes wrong. New cells grow
even when you don't need them, and old cells don't
die when they should.
These extra cells can form a mass called a
tumor(cancer)

 A stroke is a medical emergency.

Strokes happen when blood flow to your brain stops.


Within minutes, brain cells begin to die.
two kinds of stroke.
1.
Ischemic stroke, is caused by a blood clot that blocks or plugs a
blood vessel in the brain. Most common type
2.
Hemorrhagic stroke, is caused by a blood vessel that breaks and
bleeds into the brain. "Mini-strokes"

4. Diabetes




Diabetes is a disease in which your blood glucose, or sugar, levels
are too high.
Glucose comes from the foods you eat.
Insulin is a hormone that helps the glucose get into your cells to
give them energy.
Without enough insulin, the glucose stays in your blood.
1. type 1 diabetes, your body does not make insulin.
2. type 2 diabetes, the more common type, your body does not make
or use insulin well.

5. Obesity
Obesity means having too much body fat.
overweight, which means weighing too much.
The weight may come from muscle, bone, fat and/or body water.
Both terms mean that a person's weight is greater than what's
considered healthy for his or her height.
Obesity occurs over time when you eat more calories than you
use.
 Being obese increases your risk of diabetes, heart disease,
stroke, arthritis and some cancers
