• Antiseptic = chemicals that prevent the growth of microbes
• Antibacterial = destroys or prevents bacterial growth
• Disinfectant = chemical liquid that kills bacteria
How can infectious diseases be treated?
• Most infections your body’s immune system can deal with on it’s
own. But sometimes it needs a little help.
• Painkillers = make you feel better but do not get rid of pathogens
more quickly
• Antibiotics = medication that kills bacteria
• Antiviral = medication that is effective against viruses
• Antifungal = medication that is effective against fungus
