National: competition between European countries on an expansion level Nationalism: devotion to ones nation FACTORS CONT. 3. Military: Advance in military technological production. Naval and Army have bases strategically placed around the world for fuel and supplies. 4. Humanitarian: Duty to spread the blessings of western civilization, its laws medicines and Christian religion Spurred on by the best of intentions!
