• France seizing US ships because
of the trading practice between
US and England. 300 ships were
victims.
• X,Y,Z Affair – 3 French agents
asked US to pay France $10
million & a bribe to the minister
for $250,000. US said, “NO!”
• Now US ships could seize French
vessels. Congress approved
money to build up navy and army.
