Identifying Team Member Strengths
Aim
Sometimes teams need to remind themselves of what their strengths are and
how much they value each other as team mates. This upbeat exercise is a great
way to restore energy to a tired group or to finish a team session on a really
positive note.
It will take around 25 minutes to complete. It involves participants writing positive
statements about their fellow team members on a card that each team member can
keep to remind themselves of their strengths and how much others value them.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to …
 reinforce the strengths of the team
 reflect on each others’ strengths and contribution to the team
 increase their self-awareness
 receive morale and motivation through recognition
Facilitator Guidance
This energiser is suitable for groups that are familiar with each other and might benefit
from recognising and appreciating each others’ strengths. It can be ideally timed to
restore energy after a lunch break or to finish a team day on a really positive note.
Suggested Resources
 task sheet for each participant
 A4 pieces of card
 pens
 sticky tape
What to Do (15 minutes)
 Introduce the exercise.
 Invite everyone to get up and write his or her name at the top of a piece of card.

People should get a colleague to help him or her stick the card on to their back.
Invite everyone to go round the room and write on each card one positive thing that
their colleague brings to the team. You might want to give examples to help them
get started. Examples might be; leadership skills, problem solving abilities, sense of
humour.
Review Activity (5 minutes)
Once everyone has finished, invite each person to feedback one thing from their card
that they really value.
Apply Learning (5 minutes)
Draw the feedback to an end by reminding the group what a range of strengths they
possess.

This upbeat exercise will help to restore your energy. It involves giving positive feedback
to your peers.
Task
 Write your name at the top of the piece of card you have been


given. Ask one of your colleagues to stick it on your back with
sticking tape.
When everyone has a piece of card on their back, go round all
of your colleagues and write on each card a positive thing that
they bring to the team. They will be doing the same for you.
Continue this until everyone has finished.
The facilitator will invite you to read out one thing from your
card that you particularly value. Keep the card as a reminder of
what your colleagues value about you!
