Analysis of matched cohort data

Matching is occasionally used in cohort studies; examples include studies of twins and some studies of traffic crashes. Analysis of
matched cohort data is not discussed in many textbooks or articles and is not mentioned in the Stata manuals. Risk ratios can be
estimated using matched-pair cohort data with Stata’s mcc command. We describe a new command, csmatch, which can produce
these risk ratios and is often more convenient. We briefly review flexible regression methods that can estimate risk ratios in
matched cohort data: conditional Poisson regression and some versions of Cox regression.

Analyzing Landowner Demand for Wildlife and Forest Management Information

Determining appropriate topics and target audiences is essential to design effective educational outreach programs. Based on
landowner responses to a mail survey, we determined both the importance and the availability of wildlife and forest management
information topics to Mississippi landowners. Combining this information clearly identified the appropriate subject matter for
outreach programs-topics important to landowners and for which information was relatively unavailable. The importance of
wildlife and forest management information relative to its availability depended on the region, land use patterns, and landowner
characteristics, thus demonstrating which segments of the population should be targeted to maximize program impact.

Determinants of Rural-Urban Migration in Konkan Region of Maharashtra

The study has identified the factors responsible for rural-urban migration based on 120 sample respondents each of migrants and
non-migrants spread over two districts, viz. Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg of Konkan region of Maharashtra by employing the logit
model. The study has highlighted the importance of rural development programs like MGNREGA that are being implemented by
the government with a view to provide employment and income to the rural population in the country. It has also shown that for
both migrant and non-migrant households,, agriculture was the major source of income, and their consumption expenditure was
more than the production expenditure. It has also been observed that migration has a positive impact on income, expenditure and
net savings...

Haplotype analysis in population-based association studies
Provedor de dados: 31
Autores: Mander,
Adrian P.
This paper describes how to use the command hapipf and introduces the command profhap written for Stata that analyzes
population-based genetic data. For these studies, association can be linkage disequilibrium within a set of loci or allelic/haplotype
association with disease status. Confidence intervals for odds ratios are calculated with or without adjustment for possible factors
that are confounding the relationship. Additionally, this command allows the specification of many models of association that are
not widely implemented.

Headache complaints associated with psychiatric comorbidity in a population-based sample
Provedor de dados: 56
Autores: Benseñor,I.M.; Tófoli,L.F.; Andrade,L.
The objective of the present study was to determine the frequency at which people complain of any type of headache, and its
relationship with sociodemographic characteristics and psychiatric comorbidity in São Paulo, Brazil. A three-step cluster sampling
method was used to select 1,464 subjects aged 18 years or older. They were mainly from families of middle and upper
socioeconomic levels living in the catchment area of Instituto de Psiquiatria. However, this area also contains some slums and
shantytowns. The subjects were interviewed using the Brazilian version of the Composite International Diagnostic Interview
version 1.1. (CIDI 1.1) by a lay trained interviewer. Answers to CIDI 1.1 questions allowed us to classify people according to
their psychiatric...

Odds ratios and logistic regression: further examples of their use and interpretation
Provedor de dados: 31
Autores: Hailpern,
Susan M.; Visintainer,
Paul F.
Logistic regression is perhaps the most widely used method for adjustment of confounding in epidemiologic studies. Its popularity
is understandable. The method can simultaneously adjust for confounders measured on different scales; it provides estimates that
are clinically interpretable; and its estimates are valid in a variety of study designs with few underlying assumptions. To those of
us in practice settings, several aspects of applying and interpreting the model, however, can be confusing and counterintuitive. We
attempt to clarify some of these points through several examples. We apply the method to a study of risk factors associated with
periventricular leucomalacia and intraventricular hemorrhage in neonates. We relate the logit model to...
