A comparative ecophysiological study of two infaunal filter-feeding bivalves: Paphia rhomboides and
Glycymeris glycymeris

Autores: Savina, Marie; Pouvreau, Stephane.
A comparative ecophysiological study was carried out in September and November 2002 for two bivalves, Paphia rhomboides and
Glycymeris glycymeris, which are significantly harvested in the Western Channel (French coast). Individual measurements of
clearance and respiration rates were performed for both species, in several experimental conditions of temperature and
phytoplankton concentrations. Those conditions were chosen to be in the range of those commonly observed in the subtidal area
of the Western Channel. The mean value of clearance rate and oxygen consumption obtained from continuous data recording did
not reveal any significant influence of temperature in the investigated range, but a significant difference between P rhomboides
and G. glycymeris....

Attendrissement enzymatique de chair de mollusques

Autores: Kouadio Kouakou, François.
Two types of marine molluscs were studied. The highly individual characteristics of the flesh of these two shellfish, in this case its
firmness, led us to analyse the behaviour of the foot muscle, the firmest part, as a function of heat and to the determination of the
different temperatures at which the denaturation of the main constituent proteins occurs. This firmness makes the muscles difficult
to chew to such an extent that they have acted as a break to consumption. These shell-fish have very similar proportions of
myofibrillar and connective proteins, both of- which are responsible for the texture of meat. This similarity of composition
determined the choice of an enzymatic preparation (protease V100) capable of acting simultaneously on both these...

Cartographie et évaluation des principaux mollusques filtreurs du Golfe Normano-Breton

Autores: Noel, Philippe; Blanchard, Michel; Berthou, Patrick.
During 1993 and 1994, quantitative sampling were realized in Norman Gulf (Western Channel) to estimate molluscs
suspension-feeders. Four bivalves are regularly sampled : Spisula ovalis, Tapes rhomboides, Glycymeris glycymeris and Venus
verrucosa. For each species, individual age and weight were noticed. The spreading gastropod Crepidula fornicata was also
sampled. The resultant biomass and distribution are proposed. These results will contribute to the evaluation of trophic exchanges
in boundary layer and to the proposed modeling, in the program PNOC (National Program for Coastal Oceanography). NOT

Modélisation écologique des populations de palourdes roses (Paphia rhomboïdes) et d'amandes de
mer (Glycymeris glycymeris) en Manche

Diversity and abundance of the benthic fauna in the Channel Sea have favoured the development of fisheries, particularly those of
shellfish (scallop, warty venus, common cockle, dog cockle, banded carpet shell, surf clam...) and also attracted the interest of
scientists. Some large scientific programs were carried out in the seventies to study benthos distribution in this area. Among the
main listed bivalves, the dog cockle (Glycymeris glycymeris) and the banded carpet shell (Paphia rhomboïdes) are particularly
widespread in the Channel Sea and in the "Golfe Normand-Breton", where they are ones of the most abundant species in terms of
biomass. In view of their halieutic interest and the existence of an important database describing their distribution,...
