O glaucoma mantém-se como uma das principais causas de cegueira em pacientes humanos e entre os animais domésticos. No

The present study was aimed to evaluate the effects of topical 1% nalbuphine on corneal sensitivity and re-epithelialization, after
lamellar keratectomy in rabbits. All protocols were approved by the Animal Care Comission of São Paulo State University
(Protocol 028793-08) and were conducted in accordance with the Institutional Animal Committee and the Association for
Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) statement for the use of animals in research. Surgeries were performed on the
left eye (Nalbuphine Group) and on the right eye (Control Group). Two groups were formed (n=10) and corneas received either
30µl of 1% nalbuphine (NG) or 30µl of 0,9% saline (CG). Treatments occurred at 7, 11, 15 and 19 hours. After the surgery, the
corneas were stained...

Autores: Ribeiro,Alexandre Pinto; Brito,Fabio Luiz da Cunha; Martins,Bianca da Costa; Mamede,Fabrício; Laus,José Luiz.
Tear film disorders in dogs can be classified into quantitative or qualitative abnormalities, or both, and are commonly observed in
daily clinical practice. Inadequate production of one or more tear film components can lead to variable degrees of ocular
disorders, called keratoconjunctivitis sicca. Keratoconjunctivitis sicca in dogs has several causes, but in most cases the disease is
idiopathic, with T lymphocytes playing a role. In veterinary medicine, the diagnosis is made based on the results of the Schirmer
tear test. In this article, we review aspects related to the etiopathogenesis and diagnosis of keratoconjunctivitis sicca in dogs and
discuss new therapeutic modalities for this disease.

Luiz.
The clinical, histopathological and immunohistochemical features of the cornea were investigated in adult male New Zealand
rabbits submitted to lamellar keratoplasty with microfibrillar cellulose membrane. Thirty animals were divided into five groups
(n=6) and evaluated up to 60 days after surgery. Clinical examination revealed moderate manifestations of edema, blepharospasm
and photophobia on the second day, which became mild or disappeared after the seventh day. This period was characterized
clinically by repair of the corneal defect. Histopathological analysis showed the presence of a thin layer of squamous cells
covering the damaged area as early as 7th day, accompanied by a mild infiltrate of polymorphonuclear cells. Blood vessels were
observed in the...

Autores: Ribeiro,Alexandre Pinto; Escobar,André; Motheo,Tathiana Fergunson; Godoy,Guilherme Selera; Laus,José Luiz.
Efficacy of meloxicam, administered by different routes was studied in experimental uveitis in dogs. Anterior chamber
paracenteses was accomplished at two different moments (M0 and M1), with a five hour interval among them. At M0 and M1,
0.2mL of aqueous humor was collected and total protein and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) quantitation was determined. Four groups
were formed (n=5), which received meloxicam at the end of M0. by the following routes: subcutaneous (GIm), subconjunctival
(GII), and topical (GIII). A fourth group that received no treatment was instituted (Control). Conjunctival histopathology of the
GII was performed. Results were evaluated statistically (P≤0.05). In all groups, protein and PGE2 values enhanced
significantly in M1....

The knowledge of the normal appearance and ocular dimensions of goat eyes facilitates the use of ultrasonography in the
evaluation of ocular disease. The objective of the present study was to determine ultrasonographic and ecobiometric findings in
the eyes of adult goats. B- and A-mode ultrasonography was performed in 30 healthy adult goats (60 eyes) (n=5 intact females and
n=15 castrated males). Ultrasonography was performed after instillation of a topical anesthetic. Lubricating jelly was placed on
the 20MHz transducer tip as a stand-off pad. The transducer was placed in a longitudinal position until optimal B-scan images,
according to echoes of the A-mode images, were obtained. Statistical analysis was carried out to compare the ecobiometric
readings...
