A brief review of nutritional studies for Penaeus monodon

In order to develop effective formulated for Penaeus monodon , sufficient information is needed on its nutritional requirements.
Unfortunately, research on this area has been very limited. This paper outlines the results of such research. Since data on the
nutritional requirements of P. japonicus are relatively well established, some of these data are also reviewed in this paper and are
used as a basis for assessing the nutritional requirements of P. monodon . Protein, lipid, carbohydrate, mineral and vitamin
requirements are evaluated from the parameters of growth survival and feed efficiency. Studies on the effects of enzymes and the
development of microparticulate diet for larvae are also summarized.

Activation of nitrate reductase of cashew leaf by exogenous nitrite

Nitrate reductase (NR) plays a central role in plant primary metabolism and exhibits complex regulation mechanisms for its
catalytic activity. There is controversy in the literature concerning the possible direct effect of NO2- on the stimulation and/or
activation of NR activity. The influence of NO2- was studied on the NR activity in the leaves of 30-day-old cashew (Anacardium
occidentale L.) seedlings. Addition of NO2- to the reaction mixture containing leaf enzymatic extract resulted in a remarkable
increase in NR activity. A trace amount (5 mumol.L-1) of NO2- was required to achieve full NR activity. The in vitro NR-activity

El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar el balance metabólico nutricional de Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn y Se, mediante la actividad
sanguínea de SOD y GSH-Px y establecer la relación entre la concentración de Cu, Fe, Mn y Zn en el forraje y la actividad de
SOD. Se tomaron 10 mL de sangre a 105 novillas seleccionadas en 15 rebaños lecheros de Caldas, Colombia (5º4' N y 75º3' O) y
se tomaron muestras de forrajes para analizar Cu, Fe, Mn y Zn. El promedio de la actividad de SOD fue 1.390±1.299 U g-1 Hb, y
estaba correlacionada con Cu, Mn y Fe en el forraje. La actividad promedio de GSH-Px fue 389±184 U g-1 Hb y fue observada
una mayor frecuencia de valores deficitarios y bajo/marginales de 9%, habiendo sido más afectados los animales de zonas altas
(>2.000 msnm)....

Activity of cellulase from Thermoactinomycetes and Bacillus spp. isolated from Brassica waste

Plant wastes present a high cellulose content, which is an ideal organic material for composting. Five strains of thermophiles from
processed Brassica waste were isolated, and the hydrolytic activity on various cellulosic biomass substrata and their temperature
profiles were determined. 16S rRNA sequencing identified these strains as Thermoactinomyces and Bacillus spp. Maximal

Alterations in muscular enzymes of horses competing long-distance endurance rides under tropical
climate

This study tried to monitor the alterations of muscle enzymes activity - creatinokinase (CK), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and
aspartate aminotransferase (AST) - in a group of horses that participated of 70 and 100km distance rides in five competitions of an
annual endurance championship under tropical climate. Pre ride levels (U/l) were 245.13±9.84 for CK, 496.61±14.76 for LDH,
and 328.95±8.65 for AST. When compared to these levels, the results revealed a significant decrease in all enzymes activities in
the first moment of the rides. Peak levels, significantly different, were reached, immediately after rides by CK (413.591±50.75);

The aim of this work was to evaluate the properties and gene expression of isoforms of β-galactosidase, isolated from
the stems of seedlings of the cowpea cv. Pitiuba, at different stages of development and sown in the absence and presence of
NaCl. Seeds were sown onto sheets of filter paper soaked in distilled water (control) and a 100 mM NaCl solution. The plants

Antioxidant system response induced by aluminum in two rice cultivars

The antioxidant defense system response was evaluated in two rice cultivars (Oryza sativa L.), Fernandes (CNA-1158) and
Maravilha (CNA-6843-1), treated with toxic levels of aluminum. After exposure to aluminum we determined plant growth, H2O2
and O2•- contents, lipid peroxidation, antioxidant enzymes activities and ascorbate and dehydroascorbate contents.
Al predominantly accumulated in roots of both cultivars but it reduced root and shoot growth only in the Maravilha cultivar.

As lipases são enzimas que catalisam a hidrólise parcial ou total de triacilglicerois produzindo ácidos graxos livres, diacilglicerol,
monoacilglicerol e glicerol. Este trabalho caracterizou a especificidade, a temperatura ótima e o pH ótimo das lipases obtidas por
duas cepas de Aspergillus niger, sendo uma selvagem C e outra mutante 11T53A14. Os resultados mostram que os extratos
enzimáticos apresentam especificidade diferentes, sendo a cepa selvagem mais específica para ácidos graxos de 8 carbonos e a
cepa mutante inespecífica em relação ao tamanho do ácido graxo. As duas cepas apresentaram atividade em uma ampla faixa de

The present research aimed to characterize some biochemical responses of Coffea canephora (clones 02 and 153) and C. arabica
(Catucaí IPR 102) genotypes subjected to low positive temperatures, helping to elucidate the mechanisms involved in cold

monosaccharides in the chyme of Nile were involved. The study included 360 fish (70g±4.43) in a completely randomized design
with six dietary treatments (0, 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 ppm of SSF) arranged in six replicates, with 10 fish per replicate. Every

The metabolic effects caused by hydric deficiency (HD) on Eucalyptus grandis clones were assessed by an experiment where
plants were cultivated in four blocks. The first was the control block, normally irrigated, whereas the other three blocks were
submitted to cycles of hydric deficiency. Analysis of photosynthetic efficiency, enzymatic activity of antioxidant response system,
level of pigments and L-proline concentration were performed to evaluate the HD effects. Results showed that HD altered some
parameters related to photosynthetic activity, pigments accumulation, proline and enzymatic activity. Clone 433 of E. grandis

The electrophoretic pattern of proteins and the activity of acid phosphatase were described in the midgut extracts during the
post-embryonic stages of Apis mellifera L. in order to stablish a correlation with the metamorphosis events. The results show the
greatest variation in proteic electrophoretical bands during prepupal stage and the smallest variation during the brown eyed pupae
stage. The acid phosphatase activity was higher during the larval last instar and lower in white eyed pupae. The greatest variety of

Environmental and physiological factors that affect the efficacy of herbicides that inhibit the enzyme

Herbicides that inhibit the enzyme protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PROTOX) are usually effective to control dicotyledonous weeds
and their agronomic efficacy is affected by environmental and physiological factors. The objective of this review is to summarize
the knowledge of those factors available in the scientific literature in the last decade. Environmental factors that influence
PROTOX inhibitors include temperature, irradiance and relative humidity. The most relevant physiological factors are the activity
of enzymes that can detoxify herbicides and also of enzymes that mitigate the effects of oxidative stress in plants. The study also
suggests some possible management strategies that could optimize the activity of PROTOX-inhibiting herbicides.

Enzymatic activity of endophytic bacterial isolates of Jacaranda decurrens Cham.

The objectives of this work was to isolate endophytic bacteria from Jacaranda decurrens Cham. and screening of some enzymes of
biotechnological interest. Ten (10) bacterial species were isolated and identified from the leaves and steams. All the isolates
presented enzymatic activity, which was ranked as follows: proteolytic (60%) and amilolytic activity (60%), lipolytic (40%),
esterasic (40%). However, cellulolytic and pectinolytic activities were not detected. This is the first report on the isolation and

Enzymatic and immunological properties of Bungarus flaviceps (red-headed krait) venom

Bungarus flaviceps (red-headed krait) venom presents an intravenous LD50 of 0.32 μg/g and exhibits enzymatic
activities similar to other Bungarus toxins. ELISA cross-reactions between anti-Bungarus flaviceps and a variety of elapid and
viperid venoms were observed in the current study. Double-sandwich ELISA was highly specific, since anti-B. flaviceps serum
did not cross-react with any tested venom, indicating that this assay can be used for species diagnosis in B. flaviceps bites. In the

Two trials were conducted on floor pens to evaluate the performance of broilers fed with diets contained different carbohydrases
enzyme programs at different ages. Trial 1- The body weight gain (BWG) was affected by the Negative Control (NC) treatment
(P<0.05). However, when the birds were fed with the NC diet + Amilase (AMY)+Xilanase (XYL), the BWG improved and
reached the same level as the Positive Control (PC). Trial 2- The birds received enzymes supplementation in the total phase and

Sphingomyelinases D (SMases D) or dermonecrotic toxins are well characterized in Loxosceles spider venoms and have been
described in some strains of pathogenic microorganisms, such as Corynebacterium sp. After spider bites, the SMase D molecules
cause skin necrosis and occasional severe systemic manifestations, such as acute renal failure. In this paper, we identified new
SMase D amino acid sequences from various organisms belonging to 24 distinct genera, of which, 19 are new. These SMases D
share a conserved active site and a C-terminal motif. We suggest that the C-terminal tail is responsible for stabilizing the entire

Influence of dietary live yeast on European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) larval development

Recent results have demonstrated that live yeast in diets improved gut maturation in sea bass larvae. In this study, we tested the
absence and two levels of live yeast in sea bass larvae diets. Specimens were fed from time of mouth opening to 37 days after
hatching a diet of 0%, 1.1%, or 5.7% wet weight of live yeast (Debaryomyces hansenii CBS 8339). Yeast incorporation improved
survival 10%, and reduced malformed larvae. In groups fed 1.1% yeast, only 1% of larvae were malformed, compared to 14% in
the control group. Final mean weight in groups fed 1.1% yeast was twice that of other groups. Activities and concentrations of

activity. LE 95/17, LE 96/22 and Leax strains were incubated in 25 g of eucalyptus sawdust substrate in Erlenmeyer flasks in
stationary culture at 25º C and in a bioreactor with four complete rotations daily at 25º C and 3% CO2. The samples were

Interaction between xylanase, glucose oxidase and ascorbic acid on the technological quality of whole

ABSTRACT: This study aimed to verify the performance of xylanase and its interaction with oxidants agents (glucose oxidase
and ascorbic acid) on the quality of whole wheat bread. The experiment was based on a central composite rotational design and
the Response Surface Methodology was used to analyze the results. None of the xylanase, glucose oxidase or ascorbic acid
concentrations within the studied range led to a significant difference in the specific volume. The highest moisture content and the
lowest firmness values were reported in the bread with lower and intermediate levels of xylanase and larger amounts of glucose

Isolation of lipase producing fungi from palm oil Mill effluent (POME) dump sites at Nsukka

In this study, twelve fungal lipase producing strains belonging to Aspergillus, Penicillium, Trichoderma and Mucor genera were
isolated from palm oil mill effluent composts. The Aspergillus spp. were more frequent (42%) and was present in all the samples
assayed. Mucor sp. was the least encountered (8.3%).The lipase producing profile showed that Trichoderma (8.07-8.24 u/mL) and

Malassezia pachydermatis: enzymes production in isolates from external ear canal of dogs with and

The relationship between production of enzymes and pathogenicity of Malassezia pachydermatis strains was studied. Thirty
strains of M. pachydermatis isolated from dogs were used: 15 originating from animals with external otitis and 15 obtained from
ears of asymptomatic dogs. The samples, obtained by introduction of a sterile swab into the auditory canal after cleaning the
auricle with alcohol-ether solution, were seeded onto Sabouraud dextrose agar with chloramphenicol (100mg/l) and were

Esta revisao tem por objetivo discutir mecanismos de tolerancia desenvolvidos por plantula da variedade de milho "Saracura"
(BRS 4154), que possui, como principal caracteristica, tolerancia a periodos intermitentes de encharcamento do solo. Os primeiros
estudos de analise de tolerancia a baixa disponibilidade de oxigenio no meio, sob condicoes controladas, em sala de crescimento,
confirmaram essa caracteristica, ao revelar que as plantulas suportam ate quatro dias de hipoxia sem nenhum dano aparente. A
partir dai, apresentaram na regiao do mesocotilo, uma regiao translucida, caracteristica de lise celular, a qual evoluiu para uma

(Cichlidae, subgroup Geophaginae). LDH and CS were measured in skeletal and heart muscle. Starch gel electrophoresis was used
to determine the isozyme/allozyme patterns in different tissues; LDH, MDHs, PGM, PGI, ADH, G-6-PDH and SOD were
screened for the numbers of loci, presence of alleles, and tissue specificity. The LDH/CS ratio in heart and skeletal muscle were

Metabolic adjustments were studied in channel catfish Ictalurus punctatus exposed to 1.5 mg L-1 of phe nol (10% LC50) for four
days and recovered for seven days. Lower triacylglycerol (TGA) stores and increased muscle fat free acids (FFA) suggest fat
catabolism in muscle. Remarkable liver FFA decrease (-31%) suggests liver fat catabolism as well. Increased muscular ammonia

Abstract: In this study, a Bionectria sp. strain isolated from citrus rhizosphere was evaluated for its potential in inhibiting the
growth of Rhizoctonia solani and Pythium aphanidermatum. It was demonstrated that Bionectria sp. 6.21 inhibited the growth of
P. aphanidermatum and R. solani. In dual cultures, however, the antagonist only parasitised R. solani. Regarding the assay
involving P. aphanidermatum, a lack of mycoparasitic ability was demonstrated. Crude extract of Bionectria completely inhibited

The aim of the present investigation was to evaluate the enzymatic activity of polyphenoloxidase and peroxidase in avocado
pulps, from the Northwest area of Paraná-Brazil, in order to compare the varieties on their enzymatic activity for both, minimum
and industrial processing. Enzymatic extracts were prepared from avocado pulp of Choquete, Fortuna and Quintal varieties, in
green and ripe maturation stage. Thermal treatment was applied with temperatures 60, 65, 70, 75 and 80 °C. The enzymatic
activities were determined by using spectrophotometer. A decline of polyphenoloxidase activity was observed in all of the

Production of Rhodotorula glutinis: a yeast that secretes alpha-L-arabinofuranosidase

Rhodotorula glutinis is a yeast that secretes the enzyme alpha-L-arabinofuranosidase (E.C. 3.2.1.55) into the culture medium and
thus has an interesting biotechnological potential. To determine improved culture conditions of this organism, different factors of
the culture media were evaluated such as the use of peptone as nitrogen source, salts composition, pH and growth temperature.
Likewise, beet molasses and beet cosette were tested as industrial carbon sources to induce the production of the enzyme and how
they influence the yeast growth. Based on these studies a culture medium is proposed for growth of this yeast in a continuous
system. By assaying different dilution rates an average specific activity for the enzyme of 82.4 U/mg of protein was obtained.

Screening of actinomycetes from earthworm castings for their antimicrobial activity and industrial

This study evaluated the effect of the processing and long-term storage on the antioxidant potential and activity of antioxidant
enzymes of frozen purées from six acerola clones. Ripe acerolas from clones BRS 235, BRS 236, BRS 237, BRS 238, II47/1 and
BRS 152 were harvested; the pulp was processed, packed in sealed polyethylene plastic bags and stored in a domestic freezer at
-18°C for 11 months. Samples of each clone were analyzed on harvest/processing day and every 30 days after for bioactive

Two related thrombin-like enzymes present in Bothrops atrox venom

This article describes the presence of two new forms of a thrombin-like enzyme, both with apparent molecular masses of 38 kDa,
in Bothrops atrox venom. Both share the ability to cleave fibrinogen into fibrin and to digest casein. Both present identical Km on
the substrate BApNA. Their N-terminal amino acid sequences are identical for 26 residues, sharing 80% homology with
batroxobin and flavoxobin. Two groups of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) raised against the purified enzyme forms recognized

Foram conduzidos dois experimentos com o objetivo de avaliar os efeitos da suplementação enzimática das rações à base de milho
e farelo de soja sobre o desempenho e metabolizabilidade dos nutrientes em codornas de corte. Os tratamentos foram: controle
positivo para atendimento das exigências; controle positivo suplementado com complexo enzimático e controles negativos

merguiensis and P. vannamei ) have been studied. Some of their physiological variations have been characterised. Increase in

Действие цинка на активность супероксиддисмутазы и каталазы у Spirulina platensis (Nordst)

Изучали влияние двухвалентного цинка на активность антиоксидантных ферментов супероксиддисмутазы и каталазы у
одноклеточной синезеленой водоросли Spirulina platensis. Двухвалентный цинк в концентрациях 0,09 - 9,0 мг/л
угнетающе действовал на активность антиоксидантных ферментов
супероксиддисмутазы и каталазы у спирулины.
Зависимость активности каталазы и супероксиддисмутазы от концентрации цинка выражалась формулой y=а/(1+bх), где
a=0,52 и b=5,28 для каталазы и а=0,49 и b=4,79 для супероксиддисмутазы, что подтверждает факт согласованности
действия данных энзимов.
