Horse 'Whispering' is a unique gift
During a long visit in Dartmoor, a region in the South of England, Nicholas Evans heard
about the so-called horse 'whisperers' for the first time in his life. After he actually had
decided to write a novel about a horse 'whisperer', he started reading everything about
this phenomenon. Evans also travelled through the Amercian states Montana, New York
and California. There he met three horse 'whisperers' and he was amazed how these
'whisperers' with their charisma managed horses and people.
The following year in 1995, Nicholas Evans first novel, The Horse Whisperer was ready
to be published. This novel became the number one bestseller in about 20 countries, it
has been translated into 36 languages; it is not a real surprise that this unbelievable story
is made into a movie, starring, produced and directed by the one and only Robert
Redford.
This academy winner directs and stars in his poignant story of 14-year-old Grace
MacLean, who is emotionally and physically scarred after suffering a terrible riding
accident while astride her prized horse, Pilgrim. Abandoning the job of her mother
Annie, a high-powered magazine editor, they launches an all-out campaign to find a
horse 'whisperer', someone with a unique gift for curing troubles horses. At this
moment, both Tom Booker,the famous 'whisperer' as the family MacLean do not know
how all their lives are going to change after having been surrounded for almost one year
by peace, time and natural beauty.

If romance in movies only makes you laugh and you are absolutely not interested in
natural beauty, the next three hours are horrible for you! Not for me. In the beginning I
thought that it was kind of movie that would fascinate me. It is acted in a real
psychological way. I could indentify myself with all the three main characters and that
makes a movie special for me. Also the theme is something you re-think about when
you are alone at home. The meaning of living in a peaceful landscape without stress
may have a great impact on your own life. I do believe that this movie makes the
audience believe that the importance of taking a deep breath with people in your
surroundings who love you is a solution for the many problems people now have and do
not know how to handle.
Not only Redford deserves all the compliments, also his assistent with the camera
Robert Richardson has done a great deal in this whole operation. He shows us every
piece of beautiful land,river,boss of North America and gives us the impression of a
'real' ranche in that country oversees. Also the actors are well chosen. The role of Grace
(Scarlett Johansson) as the one of Annie (Kristin Scott Thomas) makes us think that
their way of living with all their troubles is normal for them in some way. You are not
surprised in how they handle and behave to each other.
Short summary: The Horse Whisperer is a movie full with romance, drama, feelings
between mother and daughter, love-feelings between woman and man and especially the
love between a horse 'whisperer' and the beautiful animal the horse. Plan your next
