The 13th Olympian
By Lillian
One day I was having a picnic with my friend Lucy. After lunch Lucy spotted a
cloud. I said, “Doesn’t that look like Zeus in Greek mythology at school?” She
agreed. Suddenly all the clouds went away and it started to rain and lightning.
“I think that’s Zeus,” I said. It was him. Then he lifted me up off the ground
and into Mt. Olympus. I asked Athena if I could become a god or goddess. She said,
“Under one condition.”
“What?” I asked.
“If you go down to the river and get me that flying horse Pegasus.”
“How will I capture a flying horse like that with just my hands?” I asked.
She replied, “I will give you this sword, the helmet of invisibility, and one last
thing, the solid gold shield.”
“Why do I need all this?”
“The horse is very aggressive,” she said and then I was off to find it. When I
reached the river, I saw the horse but I was invisible so he couldn’t see me. I pointed
the shiny golden shield at the horse and it closed its eyes. I didn’t have to use the
magic sword. I jumped on the beautiful white horse Pegasus with the golden mane
and tail. Pegasus was scared and jumpy. I shined the golden shield in its eyes again.
He calmed down and I rode him back to Mt. Olympus. Athena was ready to make me
a god but to become a god you needed to have a name and I had to tell her what I
wanted to be a god of.
I said, “I want my name to be Savior and I want to be the god for saving stray
animals.” Then with a snap of her fingers, I was a god. I was soooo excited!
Athena said, “Now that we have another god, we need to have another
throne.” So Hephaestus made me a golden throne with silver stripes and animal’s
heads carved onto the front of the throne. When I visited Athena, there were always
a lot of cute puppies and small animals around the throne waiting for me.
When I went home, people were surrounding my house with stray animals they
had found. For many years, I found homes for the stray animals. The dogs wagged
their tails and licked my face to show me how happy they were to have a home.
Years after that, I found a man and I got married. On my wedding day, I saw
Athena coming toward me. She was riding the beautiful horse. She said, “Thanks for
your work. I want you to have this wonderful horse.” I asked why. She answered,
“He is yours for your wedding gift. When he comes to earth he will be a regular horse
and a very beautiful one.”
