Peloponnesian War - a war between Sparta and Athens that nearly tore Greece

According to legend, who was responsible for the beginnings of the Spartan social system?

What two qualities did the Spartans think were most important in a good soldier? Self
discipline & obedience
In a society organized such as Sparta, why might women have more rights and responsibilities
than in a society organized as the way Athens was? With men gone, women filled the
roles as land owners and heads of households

Why did Spartan elected officials have more power than the kings? The officials ran the day
to day activities and handled Sparta’s dealings with other city-states.
What were Athenian girls taught? a few girls were taught by private tutors, all were
taught weave and sew & care for the home

military: Athens – thought the mind and the boy should be trained

didn’t emphasize military; it encouraged the arts and sciences

states money for the Delian league for their own purposes, they treated them
like subjects
