SUBSET-026 V222 7.4.2.8 / 7.5.1.78a
EEIG217 Allowed current consumption
In some situations/locations it is necessary to reduce the
traction current consumed by a locomotive or trainset in
order to avoid damage to the energy supply due to
overcurrent as well as the operational blockage that will
result. Furthermore the earthing devices are
dimensioned for the allowed current consumption.
Therefore in case of an overcurrent situation the current
cannot be fed back to the energy supply correctly but will
lead to a potential difference in the vicinity of the line.
This can harm or damage people and devices close to
the line.
To solve this problem it was attempted to do this
together with a harmonisation of the variable
M_TRACTION. This approach was abandoned due to
the great variety of different parameter values existing in
the national traction systems.
Therefore it was decided to assign five values of the
variable M_TRACTION to each railway for the definition
of their electric traction systems. As an intermediate
solution on the POS line DB is going to use these five
values to control the current consumption.
For the future a universal solution is required that can
deal with the different national handling and the limited
number of values in the variable M_TRACTION.
Therefore it is proposed to uncouple the issue of limiting
the current consumption from the variable describing the
power system by introducing a new variable
M_CURRENT. With this additional variable trackside can
define the allowed current consumption independently
from M_TRACTION.
