Patient positioning and operative room set up for the closed reduction technique. The
patient is placed supine on a radiolucent fracture table with a traction arc. A bump is
placed under the thorax and the injured side is pulled to the edge of the table to allow
for easy SI screw placement. No perineal post is used. The injured extremity is placed in
traction with 20-30 degrees of flexion at the hip. The uninjured extremity is placed in a
traction boot with the knee in extension. The uninjured leg acts as a post. A specially
adapted hip-positioning pad (black arrow) is locked to the table on the injured side. This
pad abuts the chest wall to prevent lateral rotation of the thorax when traction is pulled.
