women with early stage breast cancer. Areas covered in the intervention include: relaxation
training (Progressive Muscle Relaxation, guided imagery, deep breathing exercises), identifying
stress, rational thought replacement, coping, anger management, assertiveness training and utilizing
social support.

The first phase of this project focused on coping and adjustment processes in early stage
breast cancer patients in their first year post-treatment. The second phase of this project focuses
improving adjustment of young, early stage breast cancer survivors. Responsibilities included data
collection, data entry, developing subject recruitment strategies, subject recruitment, abstract
submission and manuscript preparation. Also acted as co-therapist of the group intervention.

Study investigated the differing relationships of depression and anxiety to risk aversion.
Responsibilities included creation of risk aversion questionnaire, subject recruitment,
implementation of psychological measures, data collection, analysis and write up. Received the
Miles J. Murphy Award for outstanding research by a senior.
