ATTRIBUTES AND EBV’S MOST IMPORTANT TO DEVANAH
Over our morning cuppa we were talking about what 6 attributes were most important to us. Birth weight is of course important but that EBV is generated
primarily from growth rates as many people do not weigh calves. Therefore we decided that Gestation Length was better. We want growth – 600 days,
muscularity - EMA, fertility – scrotal size and Rib fat and IMF for MSA compliance and eating quality. We then decided to aim at our sires being in the top
20% for these traits.
Given that many have not yet scanned their K’s we did a search on Murray Grey data base for:
Selection Criteria:
Calving Year(s): = 2013,
Animal is MALE,
Gestation Length (days) <= -1.3,
600 Day Wt (kg) >= 59,
Scrotal Size (cm) >= 0.9,
Eye Muscle Area (sq cm) >= 1.8,
Rib Fat (mm) >= 0.2, IMF (%) >= 0.2,
You can imagine our surprise when we came up with one of our bulls who is currently joining our ‘Grey’ Mob.
