JUMO Wtrans Wireless temperature measurement – now with a new transmitter and additional receivers The Wtrans series from JUMO contains a new transmitter with M12 connection for adaptation to existing Pt 1000 resistance thermometers. Additional receiver designs are also available, which have two rather than four analog inputs, but also have two relays for a variety of monitoring tasks and are suitable for supply voltage of either 230V or 24V. The transmitters are located in a probe handle and are protected by a watertight housing. The radio frequencies used are largely non-sensitive to external disruptive influences and permit transfer even in a rough industrial environment. The probe with a fixed protective tube is designed as an insertion measurement probe and is available with an installation length of 50 to 1000 mm. A platinum chip resistor is used as a high-precision measurement element. On the transmitter side, a functional temperature range of –30 … +260 °C has been achieved with a fixed protective tube, and a functional temperature range of –100 … +500 °C with M12 connector and remote probe. The permitted ambient temperature range for the electronics is – 30 … +85 °C. To take account of currently valid legislation and to comply with existing norms and industry standards, the Wtrans system has a proprietary protocol and operates in the ISM band on the 868MHz frequency (Europe) and the 915MHz frequency (USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand). PI 1591 (1/3) Press Release 1591 JUMO Wtrans Wireless temperature measurement – now with a new transmitter and additional receivers The mounting rail receivers provide the measured values via four analog outputs [0(4) … 20 mA, 0 … 10 V] or two analog outputs and two floating relays as well as via the RS485 interface with Modbus protocol. For each receiver, up to 16 Wtrans transmitters (insertion temperature probes) can be managed via the RS485 interface. Useful functions ensure ease of use and numerous usage options. A user-friendly setup program enables the system parameters to be modified and the required settings to be made. Alternatively, all functions can be accessed and set using the keys on the receiver and the display. As a result, parameters such as linearization, scale start and end, filter constants, offset indicator and slider (minimum/maximum value memory) can be set separately for each of the analog outputs. The option of selecting the aforementioned additional parameters as the trigger for an alarm provides users with a wide range of application and monitoring options. The two integrated relays can be used to perform a variety of monitoring functions. All device outputs are electrically isolated. For the temperature measurements, the aim was to achieve real-time behavior for the individual measured values. The use of an innovative radio transfer technology significantly reduces the installation effort. Other advantages are clear: Long connection lines in cable-mounted systems are almost always an obstacle for the user. Compared to wired solutions, wireless temperature sensors are an effective, low-cost alternative. Costly, error-prone cable connections are no longer necessary, and the radio-based temperature sensor technology also functions in a rough industrial environment. Compared to wired measurement data transfer, the costs for maintenance, repair and reinstallation are lower. The JUMO Wtrans radio technology opens up completely new areas of application for the transfer of temperature data.
