WHAT IS A CANCER GRANT?
The Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the
United States offers to its members a unique program. A cancer
grant is a lump sum love gift given to a member who has been
diagnosed as having cancer. Every member is entitled to this gift
provided she has met the terms of eligibility. Applications should be

have to be repaid. It is to be used to help pay your medical
expenses. Each Auxiliary member is entitled to receive TWO grants
in her lifetime; however, they must be one year apart.
WHY IS IT NECESSARY TO FILE
THE GRANT QUICKLY?
Cancer Grants may not be filed for deceased members. If the
member dies while the application is in process, National
Headquarters should be notified immediately. “In process” means
date stamped upon receipt at National Headquarters.
WHO RECEIVES THE CHECK?
The grant check is sent to the member. In all cases where
another has completed the form on the member’s behalf, the check
will be made payable to the member and mailed to the person listed
as Next of Kin, Power of Attorney or the Estate of the deceased.
