Italians investing in double-circumference presses
KBA Compacta 618 for Coptip Industrie Grafiche s.c.ar.l.

A healthy and dynamic global economy is always
a sound basis for strong demand for commercial
web offset presses. One of the most sought-after double-circumference presses is currently the KBA Compacta
618.
In August next year just one such 48-page Compacta press
is to be delivered to the firm of Coptip Industrie Grafiche in
Modena on the southern side of the plain of the river Po, one
of the rivers which forms the southern part of the great lagoon of Venice. The printing house was founded in 1920
when several local printers in the vicinity of Modena joined
forces to form a co-operative. Although initially concentrating
on sheet-fed production, the company has since focussed
increasingly
on
web-fed
operations
and
is
today
a
well-equipped partner of choice providing a complete service
spectrum from pre-press through to bookbinding.
The new press has a cylinder circumference
of 1,197mm (47.13in) – quite typical of presses in
Italy – and will be supplied with reels via the Patras A automatic reel logistics system and the Pastomat RC automatic
reelstand. The C618 features four printing units, KBA
Drivetronic shaftless drives throughout, reduced lock-up slot
– 2–
on blanket and plate cylinders, a high performance hot-air
dryer with afterburner, an efficient chill-roller stand and a
turner-bar superstructure for up to 3 ribbons.
The press is configured with the automatically adjustable P5
pin folder featuring an optional folding-jaw cylinder to furnish
the second parallel cross fold. Together with a comprehensive turner-bar arrangement, quarterfold and quarterfold
transfer, this provides Coptip with production flexibility to accommodate even the most demanding customer requirements.
