ADVICE SUMMARY APPLICATION FOR REGISTRATION OF A CHEMICAL PRODUCT Product name: AGROCELHONE NE SOIL FUMIGANT Applicant: AGROQUIMICOS DE LEVANTE, S.A. Product number: 65193 Application number: 50378 Purpose of Application and Description of Use: Registration of a 333 g/kg chloropicrin and 608 g/kg 1,3-dichloropropene liquid product for pre-plant control of plant parasitic nematodes, plant diseases and weed seeds by soil fumigation. Active Constituent(s): 1,3-DICHLOROPROPENE CHLOROPICRIN Regulatory Decision: To grant the application subject to the following conditions: Standard Conditions of Registration/Approval 1. Containers must meet AgVet Code Regulation 18 2. Agricultural products must meet Active Constituents Quality Assurance Requirements 3. Label must contain a Date of Manufacture and Batch Number For full conditions, refer to Standard Conditions for Applications on the APVMA website. 50378 Page 1 of 3 KP25S_F39 Version: 2 Issued: 14/08/2007 ADVICE State/External Efficacy Reviewer Published (public domain) information and thirteen reports from small plot replicated trials conducted in Spain, Costa Rica and South Africa—in both covered and field cropping situations including a number of different fruit and vegetable crops—were provided in support of the proposed registration. Application was mostly via injection into drip irrigation equipment. Assessment methods included nematode induced root galls via a root nodulation index, percentage plants with disease indications, yield, weed numbers and plant vigour ratings. Trials were conducted in varying conditions in the three countries and in a variety of soil types and crops. Efficacy in this wide variety of agronomic situations provided evidence that similar efficacy is likely in Australian situations. The trial data demonstrated suitable efficacy in greenhouse trials in sand on clay loam with manure; field tomatoes, cabbage and lettuce on sandy loam soils; and strawberries and melons in clay loams. Results demonstrated good control of nematodes resulting in enhanced plant vigour. Weed control and fungal disease control was evident in a number of trials. No evidence of phytotoxicity was found in crops planted subsequent to treatment in any of the trials. Trials undertaken in South Africa and Costa Rica demonstrated equivalent efficacy to relevant reference products or otherwise acceptable levels of control. The APVMA is satisfied that the proposed product AGROCELHONE NE SOIL FUMIGANT, when used according to label directions, should be efficacious should not result in undue damage to subsequent crops.
