World History I Class Syllabus Fall 2016 Mr. Phillips Blocks: 1 and 2 Planning: 3rd Block Room: 29 Email: [email protected] Course Description: The focus of this course enables students to explore the historical development of people, places, and patterns of life from ancient times until about 1500 A.D. Students study the origins of much of our heritage using texts, maps, pictures, stories, diagrams, charts, chronological skills, inquiry/research skills, and technology skills. Objectives 1. Each student will successfully display content knowledge covered under World History I by scoring proficient (400 or above) on the Virginia Standards of learning test. 2. Each student will leave the classroom with a better understanding of past human events and their apparent consequences or influences on future societies. 3. Each student will learn real world skills such as: map reading, the ability to read and create charts and diagrams to display information, research skills, and the use of technology to teach others. 4. Each student will challenge themselves to find the meaning and purpose of history as recorded by man, and its relevance in today’s modern world. Class Guidelines Be in your seat doing bell work when the bell rings. Bring all materials (books, pencils, etc.) to class with you. Follow directions promptly. Treat everyone in the room with respect and dignity. Specifically, this includes only one person speaking at a time and waiting to be called on before speaking. This also means staying in the classroom unless given permission to leave. It also includes using appropriate language. Follow all rules and procedures outlined in the MVHS and Henry County Schools Handbook.
