In recent years anime has dominated western culture, why is this? What makes it so popular? Where did it start? Why does it appeal to people? There are many people who say they hate it, although they have never watched it. It all has started with few American kids program, one of the most popular that was before was called ‘Fox Kids’. Many kids enjoyed watching it and at some point they decided to change the name to something more cool and simple ‘Jetix’, many still remember the program as it was part of their childhood but Disney had bought it and then it was cancelled and all the shows were never shown again from there. Well Jetix was one of the first to start having Japanese animations on the show rather than just western, they wanted to include different culture animations in the show to make it more interesting and it also let many see on how different the eastern and western animations were. As Jetix had a lot of different eastern animations such as Dragon Ball Z, Shaman King, Naruto, Pokémon and Yu-GI-Oh! Many children had grown up with these animations as they were very interesting and many still watch Pokémon and Naruto. As children grew up they must have found out that these few animations were actually called anime as what the eastern started to call them. After knowing that they were called anime, made them wonder what other anime are like and that could be how many have started to like the eastern animations more rather than western, but at the end there are still many more western people that prefer their own countries animation than any other cultures, why is that then? It could be because people would only prefer to keep onto what is made from their countries and don’t want to feel like they are betraying it or so. There are many people that wonder, why is it so popular around in the eastern and also had become very popular in the western. In eastern it is popular as anime was created in Japan and pretty much all the countries in Asia know it. It could be that the storylines are very different to the western, which gets more people’s attention. In western there are many animations that have many episodes, one episode has one story and another has a different, it is very rare when the animations follow each other like each episode continues after each other. Even though each episode has a different story they still are very popular and always follow the same characters while over the many seasons they don’t grow much, they always stay the same age, but there could be a time skip at some point and at the end they will always return to their normal age in the next episode. Unlike anime they usually continue through the episodes from last to the next. With it following through you can understand more about what the character is feeling, his life and when they do flashbacks you could understand of what made the character become of what they are now. There is also a plus in having a continuation in a series, it is that you can see how the character develop their skills and see how they grow. A good example is One Piece, through each episode the character gets to develop his power ‘gomu gomu’ which in other words mean rubber. He finds out more and stronger ways that he can use his power in his pirate adventure, and there is also a 2 year time skip where you can see on how much they have developed over the 2 years and how much they had grown. Western animation also mainly target children as their main audience while anime has target a different range of audience. Most of their audience are actually teenagers and young adults that are in their early and mid-20s. The teenagers mostly enjoy the actions and the fighting scenes while the adults like to watch the emotional contents and the dramas. As pretty much every anime likes to put some drama, action and comedy into their animations, most people sure do enjoy the comedy of the series. There is a group of anime that is called the big 3, which means the most popular 3 anime that r going on so far. The big 3 are One Piece, Bleach and Naruto, but Bleach had finished its carrier in the anime industry and it seems like the next big anime is most likely to be Fairy Tail. Soon Naruto will be finishing and there would have been a chance for Katekyo Hitman Reborn to be in the top 3 but as the creator Akira Amano has decided to make a new anime which saddened many. There is also Full metal alchemist which has many seasons and many episodes in each. Now the question is, what will be the next top 3? Anime had started in the early 20th century. It was starting when the Japanese filmmakers decided to experiment with the animations techniques that the western were doing. The time when anime had really started to grow big in japan was in the early 1970s. That is due to the fact as their animations have started developing to the better. It is also when they decided to try out different ways to animate and different genres to use such as mecha, which looks more at what the future might be like people controlling big robots to fight on earth and in the galaxy. In the 80s they started to produce comics of the anime’s which were called manga. In the late 90s was when the western noticed Japanese animations and wanted some of their shows air or their TV screens too for children to see. Right now one of the most popular studio in japan is Ghibli studio. Ghibli doesn’t make episodes but rather 1 film per year and their animation skills are amazing, soft looking and smooth. A western studio named nickelodeon had decided to make an animation called The Legend of Avatar Korra. The style that they are making the cartoon in is actually anime like, and it is also counted by many as an anime and a cartoon at the same time. When I think about it, many anime fans do not like it when people say anime is a cartoon, why is that? It is probably because many people see anime as a very different style to the westerns, or the fact that it was created in a different culture and people don’t want to put the 2 cultures together and so they see it as it deserves a different title. Lots of people see anime as very pleasing for the eye to watch, it could mainly has to do with just the style, The American cartoon art style doesn't really set the mood for adventure. The difference in American and Japanese style is that the Japanese prefer to keep the bodies closer to the actual human anatomy, unlike the Americans who exaggerate on the bodies in different ways, which is also a plus. But the Japanese do also like to make a little bit different for the bodies especially for women, but other than that they can usually draw the characters in a way that could mistake you of what their real age is, as they sometimes draw the characters in such a cute way that they look 15 but in fact are 30 or the other way around. Japanese artists also like to make the eyes different like for females they usually have their eyes larger than the real human eye and for men the eyes could be bigger than the usual or even smaller. There is also the part where many more people prefer 2D rather than 3D. Right now many animators are re-creating and/or starting a new animation and most are in 3D. Whiles Japanese animators prefer to keep on making their animations in 2D style as many anime’s are better off looking in 2Dstyle than 3D. The fact to that was found on a site called www.whatculture.com “It’s said now that over 50% of audiences will buy the 2D tickets of a 3D film as opposed to the 3D version”. But for films it is mostly because of the high price to pay for a little scene in 3D. There was also a little talk on deviantart about 2D and 3D animations. Cakeroll 2d animation still. Not sure with kids nowadays. Even on games I still prefer 2d. 2d is easier to comprehend with its simplicity. lilylily09 I like 2D than 3D. However 3D is look like a real but I like animation because of the art, how they draw, how they design it become a cartoon/anime. So 2D is chosen more because of its simplicity and the art. Anime could be very appealing to many girls because they make the male characters very handsome though they are very simple looking at the same time. Even though the females know the characters are still not real, they still make fandoms. While mostly males buy many of female character figures. What also appeals to girls most of all are the cute chibi, which are characters from an anime that are minimized and have those big shiny eyes that make girls squeak from the curtness. Numerous anime’s have very weird story lines or just are weird like a new anime called Kill la Kill. The western would never put that on their TV shows because of its bizarre clothing choices which is the more skin the more power. So this would most definite not be on the TV screens of western but the humour is still at the top. There are many anime shows that would not be shown on the western screens because of the same type of story like Kill la Kill, but there is also a show like Corpse party. This one probably wouldn’t because of its gory and bloody animation. The ending of this animation is also not explained properly so many would find this very confusing unless you observe the last episode carefully and understand everything perfectly of what’s happening. In the world many people hate anime, and they hate it without a good reason, saying that they just don’t like it and at the same time have never even watched it, and they are not even thinking about giving a chance. That is a question that countless people who enjoy a bit of anime wonder. It could be that most of the hate goes towards the anime that has a lot to do with its fan base. Many people find them annoying. Because many people just keep on talking about it and it pops up everywhere where they go must be one reason why they simply hate anime. Some could possibly just not see anything great about the art style and so they wants something more simpler like Adventure Time or just something that is not so very close to the human anatomy. There is also a huge argument on this on Yahoo Answers. Grace answered I myself have watched a couple of anime in my life. I used to like it. But every single time I would go on any social media of some sort there would be these annoying kids from the fandom arguing about every little thing. So, I left. I didn't really care about anime (I liked it a bit) and I never will go back to watching it. In my opinion anime is getting dumber and dumber. But since it's the "cool" thing to do now, people keep on watching it. Ania-chan answered It's natural for things people haven't tried to seem automatically bad. I'm a fan, and I don't like it when people hate on anime, but I ALSO don't like people that live and breathe it (literally) and can't function without watching it ALL THE TIME. Kim answered Why do you hate anime? You think its low, no art, stupid and more. I can say that anime teach you more important than stuff you learn on cartoons (i don’t hate cartoons btw). About 70% of people who hate anime has actually never watched it, Well anime is really just the same as cartoons with more fantasy and another way to draw it. I enjoy watching anime because of the interesting storylines, the way that they always focus on one story and especially the character designs. I am interested to see how the character develops through the show. I always enjoyed anime since I was little but only understood what anime really is and where it is from when I was around the age of 13. Western also intrigues me, but at the end anime is always by my side.
