Finding the LCM
(smallest number divisible by a set of given numbers)
• Find the LCM of
8, 12
• Find the LCM of 6, 5, 4
LCM of monomials
• The least common factor of a monomial will be the LCM
of the coefficients, multiplied by the LCM of the
variables.
• To find the LCM of the variables take the HIGHEST
POWER of each!!
Examples
• Find the LCM:
• 14𝑥 2 𝑦, 21𝑥𝑦 3
6𝑏 3 , 9𝑎2 𝑏, 30𝑎4
Homework
• LCM Practice Sheet
• Rational Function Quiz
