Today’s Goal: Students will be able to determine the best metal to use for reclaiming copper from waste solution. Focus: Which metal is best at reclaiming copper from the used copper chloride solution? Main Learning Goal: Identify types of hazards and the appropriate ways to handle and dispose of them. This includes being able to compare and contrast physical and chemical methods of waste management Date: Thurs 12/12/13 Title: Activity 27, Reclaiming the Metal, Day 2 Warm Up: The formulas below represent the chemical reactions from today’s lab. Copy each, identify and count the atoms for each of these formulas on both the reactant side and the product side. Is the equation balanced? 3CuCl2 (aq) + 2Al (s) 3CuCl2 (aq) + 2Fe (s) CuCl2 (aq) + Zn (s) 2AlCl3 (aq) + Cu (s) 2FeCl3 (aq) + 3Cu (s) ZnCl2 (aq) + Cu (s) (aq) means liquid (aqueous), (s) means solid **Copy chart on back to your lab notebook for today’s demonstration. On Desk: Pen/pencil Lab Notebook Science Book Science Folder with Glossary ● I will be checking Reflection x 2, analysis 1-3 from Tuesday. I will check study guide tomorrow. We will: Review Warm up from yesterday and today. p. B-71 Read Introduction and Challenge Follow procedures 1-10 on p. B-72-73 as teacher demonstrates. Record results in chart. Review Analysis Question 1, p. B-73 Update chart “Treating Waste” with positives and negatives Discuss results of investigation and review chart on p. B-74 Complete Analysis 3, p. B-74 using writing guide BEFORE LEAVING CLASS: Reflection: Describe what you did and/or learned today… Homework- **Analysis Question 3- p. B-73 using writing guide Study Guide due tomorrow.
