Lab #6 – Circulation
 Human red blood cells have no nucleus. Frog red blood cells do.
 White cells studied are NEUTROPHILS and LYMPHOCYTES-manufactured in the
bone marrow. Most lymphocytes are manufactured in the spleen, thymus gland, and
lymph nodes.
 Open circulatory system-fluids (hemolymph) pumped at low pressures among open
spaces in body cavity. By simple heart-like organ and aided by body movementarthropods and mollusks.
 Closed circulatory system-thick walled arteries connect with arterioles then with
capillaries. Capillaries have thin walls made of SQUAMOUS EPITHELIUM.
 From the capillary blood goes to venules, then veins, and then back to the heart.

 Heart-the earthworm has a closed system with 5 muscular pseudo-hearts. Blood
flows away from the heart in contractile ventral vessel and returns in a dorsal vessel.
BE SURE TO IDENTIFY THE HEARTS.
