THE WESTIN POINSETT, GREENVILLE GOES GREEN
GREENVILLE, S.C. – April 22, 2010 – The Westin Poinsett, Greenville was recently
accepted into the South Carolina Green Hospitality Alliance, a program created by the
South Carolina Hospitality Association and the South Carolina Department of Health and
Environmental Control Office of Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling.
The program is designed to help hospitality facilities go green by auditing their
property's compliance with unique eco-initiatives that are designed to create a more
sustainable environment. Environmentally friendly measures that are reviewed include
energy efficiency, water conservation, recycling, environmentally safe cleaning,
reduction of waste, ongoing maintenance and purchasing habits. Properties are rated
based on their compliance with these eco-initiatives from a single Palmetto Tree to three
Palmetto Trees. The Westin Poinsett was awarded two Palmetto Trees and is the only
hotel in the Upstate that has been accepted into the Alliance.
Tim Paulus, Director of Sales and Marketing at the hotel said, “We were listening
to our guests and meeting planners and it became clear that ‘going green’ was a direction
we needed to take. It sets us a part and engages both guests and employees. The South
Carolina Green Hospitality Alliance is a wonderful program for our community and a
great fit for us.”
"The Westin Poinsett Hotel in Greenville is a prime example of what 'going green'
really means," said Tiffany Jaspers, project manager for the S.C. Department of Health
and Environmental Control's Green Hospitality Program. "The hotel has implemented a
comprehensive environmental policy that includes recycling, environmentally preferred
purchasing and much more. The Westin is truly leading by example."
