REMINDER!
If only two of the operations are being used it has to be left
right like addition to subtraction or multiplication to Division. BUT
if its like addition and Multiplication……and all follow the
GEMDAS rule where its groupings, then exponent multiplication,
Division addition then subtraction
Example:
134 + 73 – 66 = 142
560 + 10 / 5 = 562
857 x 12 / 6 = 1714
(25 + 10 – 5 ) -10 = 20
(55 / 5 x 10 ) x 2 = 220
Exponents
- They are the small numbers on top a number that tells you
how many times you multiply a number to itself
3
5
4
= 5 x 5 x 5 = 125
6 = 6 x 6 x 6 x 6 = 1296
12
2 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 4096
Fractions
- NOT BIGGER THAN A WHOLE 
Kinds of Fractions
Proper Fraction
The Numerator is NOT bigger than the Denominator
Ex:
3/5 5/7 12/120
Improper Fractions
The Numerator is MORE than the Denominator
Ex:
7/5 6/2 19/10
Mixed Fraction
A Fraction Where there is a whole no.
Ex:
1 2/3
5 3/4
Unit Fraction
A Fraction that the numerator is 1
Ex:
1/12
¼
½ 1/5
Operations
Addition
You have to find the LCD of BOTH the fraction then multiply
the numerator with how much times you CHANGED it…
Ex:
¾ + ½ =?
Then…
4= 4 8 12 16….
2= 2 4 6 8 20……
3x2 &
LCD is 8
1x4
=6& 4
6/8 + 4/8 = 10/8 = 5/4 = 1 ¼
Subtraction
Same as addition you have to find the LCD of both
fractions and multiply the numerator with how much times
you CHANGED it
¾
- ½ = ? LCD is 8
Then…
3x2 &
6/8 – 4/8 = 2/8 = 1/4
1x4
=6& 4
Multiplication
Just Multiply Numerator to Numerator and Denominator
to Denominator
Ex:
2/5 x 2/4 =?
2x2=4
5 x 4 = 20
4/20 = 1/5
Division
Find The reciprocal of the Divisor then Multiply the
rest…
Ex:
2/5 / 4/5 = ?
2/5 x 5/4 = ?
2 x 5 & 5 x 4 = 10 & 20 = 10/20 = ½
Surface areA
- Sum Of ALL sides of the Shape 
FORMULAS
Cube: side x side x 6
Rectangular Prism: Length x 2 + width x 2 + height x 2
2
Cylinder: 2 pi r + 2 pi r h
Volume
- The Space Inside a 3 Dimension Figure
TIP!
1 way to find the volume of a prism is…
Area of the base x Height
FORMULAS
3
Cube: S x S x S = S
Cuboids: L x W x H
2
Cylinder: pi x r x h
Triangular Prism: ½ x b x h x l 
Rules of exponents
Multiplying
If the no. you are multiplying have the same bases then just
add the exponents..
5.5.5.5.5.5.5 12
________ = 5
5.5.5.5.5
Division
the same goes with dividing but this time
instead of adding the exponents you
Subtract
6.6.6.6.6.6.6.6
3
_________ = 6
6.6.6.6.6
0
TIP! Anything to the power of zero ( 4 ) is equivalent to 1!
And cancelation is Possible 
