Introduction
If you have ever felt like you just wanted to grow up and be the boss of your
family, you may change your mind after finding out how much it will cost you. You
will get to be the grown up in this webquest. However, you will have to use your
math smarts (your career choice’s salary, spending and saving habits, budgeting of
bills and housing cost) and good judgment in order to fulfill an essential adult
responsibility: Feed your family.
Essential Question: How much does an average dinner cost and average family???
Remember that your family has to eat dinner EVERY night.
The Task
In this task you will:




Plan a well balanced dinner for your family.
Shop for the ingredients needed to make your healthy dinner
You will calculate the total cost of the ingredients.
You will give each person in your family the same amounts of each food a
creative work, or
 You will divide the total cost of the dinner and find the average cost per
person by dividing the total cost by the amount of people you are feeding.
 Present your findings by creating your family using Powerpoint. Each person
must have their dinner plate with the food you made presented on it.
 You will label the dinner for each person with the average cost.
The Process
1. First you'll be need to use the food pyramid provided in order to guide your well
balanced meal plan.
2. Once you've planned your meal, you will need to shop for the ingredients from
the stores provided here. Make good decisions and shop for the lowest cost and use
different stores if needed.

Conclusion
So what did you think? Was being an adult a breeze? Does it take a lot of work
and money to feed a family an average meal? Use this lesson to guide your
decisions about what you would like to choose for a career and how much you will
need to earn per year when you really do grow up. Multiply this average cost by
three meals a day and then multiply that number by 52 weeks in a year. There.
