Brief review of entity-relationship, database models and an in-depth coverage of the relational model including relational algebra and calculi, query languages, normalization theory, integrity and security, storage structures, access methods, query processing, transaction, concurrency and recovery control, advanced querying and information retrieval. In labs, students will practice several database management systems such as ACCESS, MySQL, MS SQL Server and ORACLE. Students will learn to use SQL, embedded and dynamic SQL, GUI facilities, client-server interfaces, and other software packages in database management systems.
