Students will construct the 6 phases of mitosis using construction paper, yarn, glue, measuring quip. They will produce plant and animal cells in these phases. Class: 7th Grade Life Science Instructor: Mr. J. Goeller Subject Area: Cell Division (Mitosis) Curriculum Objective: The students will create the 6 phases of mitosis, using chromosomes to highlight the cells. Technology Objective: Use of constructive techniques to build cells. Content Standard Alignment: 3.5 4.6 Process Alignment: 3.5 4.6 Sub Skills: Learner Activity: With hands-on activity using construction paper and pieces of yarn, the students will re-create the process of cell division. Assessment Activity: Instructor will look at the finished product: look for accuracy, neatness, and completion of activity. Method of Assessment: Hands-on instruction Written test Instructional Method: Following activity instruction, the students will be placed in pairs (small groups). They will gather their materials and follow instructions. -construction paper will be used to make the cells. -each cell will be a predetermined size. -students will measure and cut out parts of cells. -they will measure and cut the yarn into pieces of chromosomes. -these chromosomes will be placed in the correct areas of the cells to show cell division. -anchored by glue. -completion of all 6 phases of mitosis. Resources: Textbook, notes, and videos.
