Lesson 3
Attitude/Energy
“Whatever life’s challenges you may face, remember always to look to the mountaintop,
for in so doing you look to greatness. Remember this, and let no problem, no matter how
great it may seem, discourage you, nor let anything less than the mountaintop distract
you. This is the one thought I want to leave you with.”
Alfonso Ortiz (Tewa) 1973
Rationale for Life Effectiveness:
The attitude and energy we send out and receive greatly impact our life effectiveness. In
Search of Your Image, Jill Keiser Hassler quotes Samuel Cypert, director of communications at
Masco Corporation, a Fortune 500 Manufacturer and author of Believe and Achieve, “If you expect
success, you will succeed. If you expect failure, you’ll fail. It’s as simple as that” (p.163) Attitude
is your innermost point of view towards yourself and the world. The dictionary defines attitude
as, “a manner of acting, feeling or thinking that show in ones disposition.” Cypert continues,
“Negative thinking is a learned habit. We can condition our minds to think positively by
replacing negative thought with positives ones--hour by hour, day by day” (p.164). A positive
attitude “requires analyzing your circumstances, minimizing the risk and maximizing the
advantages…then approaching the situation with the belief that you will succeed.”
Denis Waitly in Empires of the Mind discusses the meaning of self-fulfilling prophecy. He
says that an idea may be neither true nor false, but it is likely to become true if it is believed.
Waitly adds that thoughts and images have a measurable physical reaction and states, “What the
mind harbors the body manifests in some way” (p.)
According to Carla Hannaford Ph.D. in her book, Awakening the Child Heart, “all matter is
energy existing as vibration; therefore, we as humans are, in essence, vibration existing in a sea of
vibration”(p.). At all times we are either in a state of incoherence or coherence. The author says
that coherence “applies to a conscious pleasure state of being in alignment with our purpose, joy,
happiness and connection to others” (p.3). We feel coherence when we are connected to others
and ourselves in a harmonious environment or when we are fully engaged in joyful tasks.
Vibrational patterns are either coherent or incoherent, and researchers have been able to use
electromagnetic field readings of the heart to document the effects of coherence and incoherence
on participants’ bodies. Our attitudes and energy affect our life effectiveness.
Understandings Desired:
Students will be able to understand that:
 Our attitude totally affects our thoughts, feelings, and outcomes.
 Humans emit coherent and incoherent energy.
Equine Activity:
Observe and experience horse energy fields and their reaction to coherent and incoherent
energy. While the students are learning through demonstrations, they are to be silent and
record their reflections and analyses of their observations.
Established
Academic Standards:
Skills for a Healthy Life
C. A student should understand how well-being is affected by relationships with others.
Developmental ASSETS:
Asset 30: Responsibility.
Asset 37: Personal power.
Social and Emotional Learning Standards:
1. Self –Awareness
Essential Questions Considered:
Is it possible to succeed if you believe you cannot?
Are you likely to fail if you believe you will?
Does confidence affect outcomes?
Are confidence and attitude related?
Can vibrational energy be changed?
Does all matter have vibrational energy?
Suggested Vocabulary Words:
Attitude, energy, failure, success, confidence, belief
Key Knowledge and Skills Students will Acquire:
Students will be able to:
 critique the effects of attitude on the outcomes of situations
 perceive the results of coherent and incoherent energy.
Assessment Evidence:
Students will be able to write or act out actual or imagined scenarios in which people
figure out that their attitudes and vibrational energy are helping instead of hindering
them.
Materials Needed:
Notebook/pencil
Round pen
Computer
Dr. Emoto videos
Dr. Emoto books
Dr. Carla Hannaford’s books- muscle testing
Tibetan singing bowl
Activities:
Students will:
1. Check-in-- Qigong activity and state one or two emotions depicting their current
feelings.
2. Observe and participate in experiencing a horse’s energy field and note the
equine’s reactions to coherent and incoherent energy. While the students are
learning through demonstrations, they are to be silent and record their findings.
3. Circle-Up-- share some of their discoveries about energy fields and coherent and
incoherent energy.
4. Read data about the relationship between attitude and success and Carla
Hannaford’s compilation of findings regarding coherent and incoherent energy.
5. View Dr. Masaru Emoto’s slides showing vivid photographs of ice crystals.
Listen to information about how Emoto’s pictures show that when water was
exposed to feelings of love or thanks, the crystals that developed were beautiful
geometric figures, but when water was exposed to the feeling of anger and
violence, the crystals formed were very unattractive and lacked luster and
vividness
6. Write or act out actual or imagined scenarios in which individuals figure out that
their attitudes and energy are helping instead of hindering their life success.
7. Circle Up-- experience vibrations from a Tibetan Bowl and then share a current
feeling or thought.
