World War 2 Timeline of Events:
1923 – Hitler & Nazi’s begin gathering support
1933 – Hitler becomes chancellor (leader) of Government
1934 – President of Germany dies…Hitler declares himself President (& now ultimate
leader of Germany)
1936 – Hitler sends troops into Rhineland (Demilitarized Zone from Treaty of Versailles
– Go against Treaty of Versailles)
1938 (March) – Hitler invades & takes control of Austria
1938 (September) – Munich Agreement. Britain “appeases” Hitler and signs agreement
allowing Germany to take control of Western Czechoslovakia
1939 (March) – Hitler takes over ALL of Czechoslovakia (goes against Munich
Agreement) **Western countries now understand only War will stop Hitler
1939 (August) – Hitler signs Non-Aggression Pact with Soviet Union (Piece of “Wood”
for WW2)
1939 (September 1) – Germany invades Poland. (*SPARK TO WW2) Britain says
“Germany you must leave before Sept 3”
1939 (Sept. 3) – Germany ignores deadline. Britain & France DECLARE WAR **WW2
Begins**
1939 (Sept 8) – Canada meets in Parliament to make decision to enter war
1939 (Sept 10) – Canada declares War on Germany
1940 (April) – Germany attacks Denmark (conquers in hours) & Norway (conquers in 2
months) (successful use of Blitzkrieg attack)
1940 (May) – Germany attacks & takes over Netherlands & Belgium...continue into
France. Germany surrounds British troops in Port of Dunkirk.
1940 (May 26-June 4) – British Evacuation of Dunkirk (340,000 Allied Soldiers
successfully evacuated)
