Cornell Notes: Cardiovascular System (AKA Circulatory System)
Structure: Heart, blood, blood vessels (arteries, veins and capillaries)
Function: The Cardiovascular System is responsible for
1) bringing oxygen, nutrients and other necessary things to all cells in the body.
2) Fighting infection (white blood cells)
3) Controlling temperature
The heart: 1) pumps blood
2) made of cardiac muscle
3) about the size of a fist, located on the left side of your body
Blood Vessels: Three kinds
1) arteries take blood containing oxygen from the heart/lungs to the body
2) veins return blood with no oxygen from the cells back to the heart/lungs
3) capillaries are the small blood vessels that reach out to each cell
The circulatory system works like a figure 8
