Hitler Youth An Augmented Reality Project “The weak must be chiseled away. I want young men and women who can suffer pain. A young German must be as swift as a greyhound, as tough as leather, and as hard as Krupp's steel." Background In Hitler’s Grand Plot, students will discover how Hitler coached, trained, educated and indoctrinated his people in his efforts to conquer and rule Europe. He wanted to recapture land he had lost during World War 1 so he increased his army by training young healthy Aryans who were malleable and would conform to new regime without much resistance. He wanted a pure and strong race so he murdered millions of Jews, non-Germans and people who were greatly disabled. He also wanted to rid the world of Communism and he saw the Jews as the “biological root" of Communism. This is a pre-reading activity. Students will be placed in groups of fours and each group will gather information about Hitler’s youth, the Jews, the laws, the education system to predict the plot of the book and create a timeline. While gathering information students must work as a team to organize their findings and report to the class. The overall aim of the game is to get students excited about the book they are about to read and assist them in developing their cognitive skills. Unit Goals The aim of this game is to foster intellectual development of students by encouraging study of nonfiction literature and writing. Students will work in groups to gather, record, analyze and critique data. Through the lens of Inter-Relationships and Self-Reliance, they will consider how they build relationships, how their relationships impact others, and their responsibility to society. Students will use background information to interpret the given data. At the end of the lesson students should be able to achieve the following objectives.
