Biology Vocabulary Chapter 1: Biology and You (science, methods, tools and definition) Chapter 2: Applications of Biology (health, society, technology and the environment) Chapter 18: Classification Posted on Tuesday 9/13/16 Due on Tuesday 9/20/16 You will need to be able to define each of the following terms and ideas. They are not all in the glossary! Being able to use the terms correctly in a sentence will improve your ability to remember and understand the terms. Spelling is an important part of accurately conveying your understanding. Sometimes a sketch or image is as helpful as a written definition You should decide what will best help you to study these terms. You may make flash cards (and then keep them, all ready to go, until exam time), You may hand write the definitions Hand written definitions may be within your notebook and it is not necessary for you to tear them out when I check vocabulary, or they may be completed on separate paper. or You may type the definitions in something like a google doc. You can share this with me when you are ready to hand in. Here the words are listed alphabetically. You can also use http://quizlet.com to make your own flash cards. There are also lots of other apps like Study Stack. Just know you will have to open this in front of me so I can see your user name and scroll through your terms. Yes there are over 50 words. Define 10 on Tues, 10 Wed, 10 more in seminar, 10 Thurs and 10 over the weekend. Don’t save all 50 until Monday night You have a whole week. animal / animalia bacteria / bacterium biochemistry biology biometrics biomimetics biotechnology botany cell cell membrane chemistry classification control (s) control group/ control set up/ control set correlation DNA development ecology eukaryotic cell / eukaryote evolution experiment experimental group/ experimental set up/ experimental set fungi genetics genetic engineering -gram -graph growth homeostasis hypothesis hypothetical – deduction method liter metabolism meter microbe microbiology microscope (CLM) model (scientific model) nanotechnology nucleus observation plant prokaryotic cell / prokaryote protista reproduction scientific methods SI theory tissue unicellular vaccine X axis Y axis zoology
