Class Expectations: I expect you to adhere to the following code of conduct in my class in addition to the Letter of
Expectations which is also included.
1. Be respectful. Treat others the way you want to be treated.
● This rule serves as a foundation for our class. I will respect your ideas, thoughts, values and property and I
expect you to do the same for me, your classmates, and other faculty and staff at the school.
2. Be responsible. Bring all materials with you to class.
● I expect you to be on time and prepared for class everyday. When you enter my class you should have a
pen/pencil, your notebook and any assignments that are due. Also, remember that you are responsible for
monitoring your behaviors and actions.
3. No food or electronic devices.
● Cell phones, I-pods, MP3 players and other electronic devices should be put away before you enter my class.
If I see these items, I will confiscate them for the remainder of the school day.
4. Obey all school rules and policies.
Procedures: In addition to these basic rules, there are some procedures we will follow in class● Each class will begin with a warm-up activity.
● I expect students to be in class at all times. However, if you must go to the restroom, don't be afraid to ask.
● If you miss class, make-up work is your responsibility. Check the folders marked with your class and
the day of the week that you missed class in order to find your missing assignments. You will need to use your
class’s interactive notebook at my desk or a friend’s notebook to fill in your missing notes. If you need help
finding your missing work, it is your responsibility to ask.
● I am available for help!! Generally, I am available during lunch or before school if you need additional
help or would like to ask questions. Please come see me if I can be of help in any way. Social Studies tutoring
is offered every Monday in my room at lunch. If you have an average below 77, you will be required to attend
these tutoring sessions.
Consequences: I do not expect any problems; however, if problems arise I have outlined the progression of
consequences1. Verbal warning
2. Lunch Detention and a phone call home
3. Administrative referral
Grade Distribution:
Your grade will be calculated using the total points system. Each assignment is worth a predetermined number of
points. For example, Current Event assignments are worth 10 points each week and Tests are generally worth 100 points.
Your quarter grade is calculated by dividing the number of points you earn by the total of all possible points and
multiplying by 100. For example, if you earned 100 points out of 125 possible points your grade would be an 80.
I hope that we will have a fun, rewarding and intellectually stimulating classroom environment as we learn about the
history of the world through the lens of the arts this year. I look forward to working with all of you and I know that we are
going to have a great year!
Sincerely,
Adam Sanders
