We will be identifying the genre, author’s purpose, predicting, main idea with supporting
details and summarizing. We will be learning to make connections, adjust reading speeds,
and clarify text. We will be decoding long vowel sound words, consonant blends and the
sounds for /f/, /m/, /n/, and /r/ this week. The Reading test will be on Friday on
vocabulary words and comprehension of the selection.
Your child may read any book from home or the library for take home reading unless I assign
a book. Your child should read at least 20 minutes each day.

Writing
We will be working on writing a biography about a classmate. We will learn how to interview a
person and take notes on what is said. We will identify nouns in our sentences and check to be
sure all our sentences have the proper capitalization, punctuation, spelling and grammar. We will
practice cursive handwriting letters with the letters
a ,o, r and s.
Math
We will review adding, subtracting with and without regrouping, place value and writing and
recognizing numbers in standard form, expanded form, word form and model form. We will be
reviewing the addition properties and math terms for addition and subtraction. We be practicing
problem solving strategies.

Social Studies
We will be learning about geography. We will be learning geography terms. Please study these
words with your child in preparation for the test.
Science/Health
We will be learning about plants and soils. We will be doing activities this week to learn about
seeds and leaves and the importance of them. Please send 3 different types of leaves by
Tuesday.
Please be sure you check your child’s planner for homework assignments. Please make sure your
child puts all assignments in the homework folder and in the book bag after they are completed.
Be sure to sign the planner daily and note your child’s behavior. My e-mail address is
