A post-World War II struggle between the United States and the Soviet Union
that caused a state of tension, fear of nuclear war and division between
nations, though no direct fighting took place. (Communist vs. Democratic
Nations)
President Truman’s 1947 statement that promised military and economic
assistance to Greece and Turkey that were threatened by communism
Secretary of State George Marshall’s 1947 plan passed by Congress that
wanted to help Europe rebuild its economy. Marshall was afraid that hungry,
homeless people might turn to communism
AKA the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, is an organization formed in
1949 by the United States and Western European Allies - purpose was to
defend Western Europe against any Soviet aggression

The Soviet Union tried to drive the United States and its allies out of West
Berlin through a blockade of the city during the Cold War. The US responded
with a massive airlift of food and other materials that lasted over three months

from coming in or going out; to close off a country’s ports
North Korean troops (communist) invaded South Korea (non-communist) –
the US sent troops – there is still no permanent peace – part of the Cold War
