Endocrine System
Endocrine system is a collection of glands that
produce and secrete hormones that regulate your
body's growth, metabolism, and sexual
development and function.
The hormones are released into the bloodstream
and transported to tissues and organs throughout
your body.

The hypothalamus is a tiny cluster of brain cells which transmits messages from the body to the brain.
The pituitary gland releases many hormones which affect growth, sexual development, metabolism
and the system of reproduction.
The pineal gland (or pineal body) produces melatonin, a hormone which regulates the circadian
rhythm, or sleep cycle.
The thyroid gland controls the rate at which the body produces energy from nutrients releases
hormones that regulate energy and emotional balance.
The parathyroid glands control the level of calcium in the blood.
The thymus gland is a gland that forms part of the immune system. Its function is to transform
lymphocytes into T-cells that play an important part in fighting infections and disease.
The adrenal glands release hormones which have important effects on the way in which energy is
stored and food is used and on chemicals in the blood.
The pancreas gland secretes digestive juices which break down fats, carbohydrates, proteins and acids.
In addition, the pancreas gland uses vessels around it to release glucagon and insulin into the blood.
The ovaries produce female sex hormones called estrogen and progesterone.
The testicles produce male hormones called androgen.
Diseases



Hyperthyroidism- It occurs when too much thyroid hormone is produced.
Hyperthyroidism- It occurs when too little thyroid hormone is produced.
Diabetes- It is a condition in which the pancreas does not produce enough of the hormone insulin or
the body does not effectively use the insulin it does produce.
