Part 1: Highlight/underline the COMMON NOUNS in one color and the
PROPER NOUNS in a different color. Circle all of the VERBS.
Meredith and Carly went to the store to buy groceries for Aunt Louise. As
they walked into Shoppers, they pulled out the list. Meredith decided it would be
quicker to split up the list. Carly went to the produce aisle and picked up the fruit
and vegetables. Meredith found the bread, pasta and Cheerios. They met at the
front of the store to pay for the items. Carly got distracted by the Starbucks
near the registers and went to purchase a Pumpkin Spice Latte, while Meredith
paid for the groceries. When the girls walked out, the Girl Scouts were out front
selling cookies. Meredith bought two boxes of Thin Mints and Carly bought a box
of Somoas. When they pulled up the house, Aunt Louise held out her hand for the
change, but the girls had spent it on the Starbucks and Girl Scout cookies!
Part 2: Circle the plural noun mistakes (9) in the following paragraph.
Underline the 4 abstract nouns.
Sean and Adam had a fun day at the zoo. The first exhibit they saw were
the monkies. They were swinging from tree to tree using ropes. The zookeepers
were getting the monkeys to do trickes by giving them cookies. Adam enjoyed the
exhibit so much that he wanted to buy a stuffed animal to remember it. The
stuffed monkies were on the two top shelfs in the store. Sean was taller, so he
got one down for Adam. The two womans that worked there helped them with
their other purchases. When they walked out of the store, there were a lot of
persons near the lion exhibit. Sean and Adam hurried over to see what the
excitement was all about. Adam saw the happiness spread across Sean’s face when
the lion let out a loud roar. The zookeepers came out with many boxs of food for
the lions. After visiting the rest of the animal exhibits, Sean and Adam headed
home. The parking lot was full of cars. Adam and Sean were happy that they were
walking home! They had two pathes to choose from, but they decided to take the
shorter one this time. When they arrived home, their mom came out to greet
them. Anyone could see the love she had for the boies as she hugged them. Even
though Adam and Sean were exhausted, they still found the energy to play with
their three adorable puppys. The boys fell fast asleep later that night!
