The Civil War was fought between 1861 and 1865. It was fought between the Union States of the North and the Confederate States of the South. President Abraham Lincoln’s responsibility was to uphold the Constitution and to preserve the Union of the United States. The main issue of the Civil War between the states was that of slavery. The Union States were against slavery and the Confederate states were in favor. In the end, the Union States were the victors of the Civil War. Soon after the war, three post-Civil War Amendments were passed by Congress.
