Read the following passage and determine which amendments the passage is referring to.
The Civil War was fought between 1861 and 1865. It was fought between the Union
States of the North and the Confederate States of the South. President Abraham Lincoln’s
responsibility was to uphold the Constitution and to preserve the Union of the United
States. The main issue of the Civil War between the states was that of slavery. The Union
States were against slavery and the Confederate states were in favor. In the end, the
Union States were the victors of the Civil War. Soon after the war, three post-Civil War
Amendments were passed by Congress. Looking at pages 44-46, list and describe each of
the post-Civil War Amendments:

The Vietnam War was fought between 1959 and 1975. It was a very unpopular war in the
United States. To further the unpopularity of it, the draft was used by the federal
government to “recruit” 18 year olds to fight. The established voting age in most states
was still 21. What amendment was passed to resolve the issue between how old you
could be to fight and the voting age in the United States? Briefly summarize whether you
agree or disagree with this amendment. (Discuss with your partner)
