BANKSTOWN COLLEGE OF TAFE
YEAR 11 GEOGRAPHY EXCURSION WORKSHEET
SYDNEY WILDLIFE WORLD AND SYDNEY AQUARIUM
31st MAY, 2010
SYDNEY WILDLIFE WORLD – habitats and adaptations of Australian fauna.
As you walk through the exhibitions at Sydney Wildlife World you will choose ONE animal from each section and describe the
animal, the habitat in which that animal lives and how that animal has adapted to its environment. Also consider how human
changes to the environment have affected that animal.
Choose ONE animal in each of the following groups and fill in the table for the animals you have chosen:
1. Invertebrates (insects, spiders)
2. Reptiles
3. Birds
4. Mammals
Describing the animal – colour, size, shape, type of skin, movement or activity
Describing the habitat – plants, rocks, colour of the environment, where the animal lives in the environment, what the animal eats,
other animals it lives with.
Adaptations – camouflage, diet, reproduction, coping with heat or drought ( see background notes)
Human impacts – have human changes to the environment made these animals rarer, what kinds of changes have made it difficult
for these animals. Has the animals been able to make use of the changes humans have made to the environment, what kinds of
changes have favoured these animals.

Today we have observed a number of different environments – tropical rainforest, eucalypt forest, semi-arid
grasslands, deserts, tropical seas and coral reefs, temperate seas and rivers or estuaries. From what you have
learnt answer the three questions below. Note that there is room to give reason for your choices.
 Which environment had the greatest biodiversity? Give reasons for your answer
