Trousdale County Schools Weekly Lesson Plan Teacher: Gulley Pacing Guide Week #: Dates: Subject: Math Common Core Standard(s) to be taught: (Write the entire standard) CCSS.Math.Content.8.EE.A.1 Know and apply the properties of integer exponents to generate equivalent numerical expressions. For example, 32 × 3–5 = 3–3 = 1/33 = 1/27. CCSS.Math.Content.8.EE.A.2 Use square root and cube root symbols to represent solutions to equations of the form x2 = p and x3 = p, where p is a positive rational number. Evaluate square roots of small perfect squares and cube roots of small perfect cubes. Know that √2 is irrational CCSS.Math.Content.8.EE.A.3 Use numbers expressed in the form of a single digit times an integer power of 10 to estimate very large or very small quantities, and to express how many times as much one is than the other. For example, estimate the population of the United States as 3 times 108 and the population of the world as 7 times 109, and determine that the world population is more than 20 times larger. CCSS.Math.Content.8.EE.A.4 Perform operations with numbers expressed in scientific notation, including problems where both decimal and scientific notation are used. Use scientific notation and choose units of appropriate size for measurements of very large or very small quantities (e.g., use millimeters per year for seafloor spreading). Interpret scientific notation that has been generated by technology SPI(s) to be taught: (Write the entire SPI) SPI 0806.2.3 Use scientific notation to compute products and quotients. SPI 0806.2.4 Solve real-world problems requiring scientific notation. SPI 0806.2.1 Order and compare rational and irrational numbers and locate on the number line Daily practice activity for citing text based evidence in conversation and/or writing: I Can Statements : Student Agenda: I can apply exponent rules to solve scientific notation Posted daily but NOT included in Lesson Plan problems. Assessment Strategies (for Stage 1 teachers ONLY): Assessment used to determine mastery daily: If a quiz or test is given, include in the Teacher’s Lesson Plan Notebook. Instructional Materials (for Stage 1 teachers ONLY): All instructional materials are to be included in the Teacher’s Lesson Plan Notebook. Instruction: In outline form, describe each day of instruction. Day 1 Formative Assessment: Bell ringers and classroom discussion Lesson 9-1 & 9-2 Exponents and Multiplication Day 2 Bell ringers and classroom discussion Lesson 9-3 & 9-4Exponents and Division Day 3 Bell ringers and classroom discussion Lesson 9-1 & 9-2 Exponents and Multiplication Lesson 9-3 & 9-4Exponents and Division Day 4 Bell ringers and classroom discussion Lesson 9-5 Scientific Notation Writing numbers in scientific notation and standard form Day 5 Bell ringers and classroom discussion Lesson 9-5 Scientific Notation 1 Day 6 Day 7 Alternate Instructional Interventions: Provide a specific plan for alternate instructional interventions, or re-teaching. Lesson practice time will be scheduled during the class day for each class and progress monitoring will be assessed by teacher to note any students needing intervention. This intervention will be done in class by the teacher or an assigned peer tutor. Intervention for some students will also be addressed during coach math time on A day’s. Instructional technologies to enhance learning: List how each will enhance the effectiveness of the lesson. All lessons are taught through the use of a mobi and this allows the teacher to discuss the lesson from any area in the classroom The students will also have a calculator to check their computation 2
